I contacted the forum for advice with regards to banking the other day. I said that I currently banked with Nationwide and how much they had changed since I had an IVA registered against me. I wrote to them and asked if I could get a debit card instead of the cheque card they issued me with {though I don't have cheques}. They replied on the back of a compliment slip 'No not at this time' I didnt ask for a an overdraft or anything else. A few days later I received a letter from them saying that they are doing away with cheques and therefore they would issue me with a cash card and if I didnt like their decision I could close me account. How nice of them.
Any way a few people came back and told me to contact the Co-Op bank and I did this evening and guess what I was accepted without any bother. They are giving me a basic account which is all I want but with an added bonus of a debit card. I spoke to a lady called Rose and she was so helpful. I can use internet banking pay in at the local branch as well as the Post Office and I didnt feel at all embarrassed knowing that I had an IVA. Rose was extremely kind and friendly.
Any one out their who feels the need to bank with a company who care try the Co-Op I am well impressed.

Hi maggiekate,

We've had very similar feedback from many of our clients.

Co-op seem to take a more human approach to banking than some of their larger competitors.

Glad the Co-op have sorted you out, but have to say I've had no problems with Nationwide.

Hi Maggie,

In case you were wondering where your other post was, I deleted it as it was basically a duplicate of this.

yes my wife did the same after i told her to try coop bank.
as she has finnished her iva they even tried to give her a full account but was credit checked and refused(but they at least tried)
and i think it will pay the coop in the end as we wont always be blacklisted from the iva and people will remember who helped them out when all the other banks wouldnt help and give the coop there buisness in future, more prosperous times
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards

I've got an account with Nationwide and the Co-op and I have to say I've had not had any problems with either.

I do agree about the Co-op though, their customer service is generally excellent. The only reason I switched to Nationwide was because I had a full Flexaccount with them so it made sense to use that. Otherwise I would have been happy to stay with the Co-op.
