Well, I am off to court to petition for my bankruptcy on 5th April - I need to get this over and done with.

My main worry is my car - it is valued at £3500-£3700, so I appreciate the OR may well seize it. My big worry is that someone has told me that as I can get to work by bus I probably won't be able to have any money for another one. I am now worrying myself silly that they will take my car and I will be left without one. OK, I know getting the bus isn't the end of the world, but the car is so much easier - to be honest I would probably leave my job if that happened. Does anyone know if this is likely to happen? It would also make it very hard to see my mum, who is elderly. She does drive, but won't drive to see me as she is nervous of busy roads.

I had really thought that I had come to terms with BR, but to be honest I just want to cry right now. OK, I know I've made mistakes and I've got to pay for them, but I want to have some independence and a normal life again. Oh don't I sound pathetic, getting upset like this - sorry.

Also, sorry for not posting it on the BR site, but I was hoping I might get an answer quicker on here.

Put forward all of these reasons if the Official Receiver seeks to take your car - which I don't think they will. I had thought that you had already addressed this one by the promise of a loan from your uncle?

Yes, my uncle will lend me the money (providing it's not too much!), but then I started to worry that they would just take my car and leave me with nothing - I couldn't expect my uncle to pay the full amount for the car. I was also told that if the OR doesn't let you keep the car then you are not allowed any petrol, tax money etc which would leave me with a big problems running it!

Although I would like to keep my car - it's fairly new, economical etc - I'm not too worried if they take my car, providing they give me money for a cheaper replacement so I can still get around.

Thanks for your advice, and sorry for panicking!

I know this is stressing you out but I really do not think the OR will take your car, they have to pay to auction it and its quite costly. These things are individual and I had this fear also. I was told to come up with every reason in the book for why I needed it. 1 one son has a heart condition and two of them have epilepsy. I was terrified of having an unreliable car. My money advisor, who has gone to court with many BR debtors said no way would they take this car from me. She said when pleading (perhaps the wrong choice of word) for your transport, she said, dont bother with a trowel, take a bull-dozer and they will listen.
Good luck, I know how scary this feeling is.

PS. She said that people have kept their cars with far less reasons than me. Your mother may not be able to drive for much longer, for instance, what if she became unwell?

Thanks Lily. It does worry me about my mum - she is 76 and in good health at the moment, but she lives on her own. If something happened and she needed me I don't want to have to get the bus. Sorry for stressing, I know there are people with far more to worry about than I have, but this afternoon I was convinced it was the bike for me from now on!

Don't worry, I will lay it on! I don't think work would be too happy if I lost my car - I struggle to get there on time with it, let alone relying on the bus or train. Also I can be asked to go and visit customers, it doesn't happen very often, but I have done it.

Thanks for your help and support x

Try and estimate these dates Coco - that will be fine for the Official Receiver.

I had to guess a lot of mine Coco. I have one question about property - do I need to say that I have an interest in my partner's property? I have only been living there a year, I am not on the mortgage or deeds and none of the bills are in my name. I am supposed to be paying him £200 per month plus bills and food (approx £600), but from March to August I paid nothing apart from food (trying to pay my credit cards), in August, September and October I paid £200 (but he gave me £50-£100 per month to buy food as I was struggling) and since then I have only paid £100 per month. To me that means I have no interest in the property, but would the OR view it the same way?

hi guys just to let you know i telephoned my court yesterday in regards to dates and they told me as soon as i had filled the forms in and had the fees it would be 2-3 days later, everyhting is moving fast now, my hubby went into the CAB today and we have an appointment with them on friday and they are going to fill all the paper work in for us they have a proper financial/ debt advisor there one day a week so hopefully that will be a big help, they were also very interested when my hubby mentioned synergi and want to look at all that paperwork to and the letters i have sent to the IPA (parasites they called them) i haven;t heard back off them yet since i submitted all the paperwork they asked for.
i will lose my car too, which i will be gutted about but they will have to allow me something else otherwise i will not be able to work and see to the children, there is a regular bus service but it would add 2 hours on extra to my working day and would mean my mum having the kids from 7 am which i don't think would be fair, plus i wouldn;t be back in time for the school runs, i just can't wait for it all to be over now and i am concentrating looking at renting depending on the outcome of the benificial interest also but we really want to get away now and start a fresh.
good luck to you both, i will let you know how i get on
