Hello

Barclaycard kep calling me to take payment for my arrears - so far i havent taken the call.

I am in the process of trying to set up a DMP and i dont have any money to give them in any case

I told M+S when they called me that i was instructing a Debt management firm to take things forward and they were fine, but i am worried about saying this to Barclaycard in case they just take the money out of my bank account when i get paid in a few days.

I have had a Co-Op bank account approved and just waiting to receive my account details - then i can get my wages transferred and safe from Barclays (i have O/D and CC with them) i just dont want to risk losing all my wages before i have everything sorted!

What should i say to Barclaycard in the meantime? Just the truth? I am so worried that they will take the money out of my account if i do this, i dont know what to say

Withdraw your money Tifosi, I'm sure it won't be long for your co-op account. Cancel everything on your Barclays account, don't wait for the banks to transfer everything, they take weeks. You can then set your direct debits etc back up when you have your co-op details. X

I agree with Viki Tifosi.

I, too, banked with Barclays and had a Barclaycard. I didn't tell either them or the bank about my prospective IVA before I had changed my account.

Cancel all your direct debits, withdraw your money and then pay it into the Co op as soon as you have your account details.

I would carry on ignoring the calls, I never took any at all from them.

As for your new DD's, as soon as you have your account details, ring the companies involved and set them up over the phone.

That's what I did.

I would have to agree. Get yourself down to the bank and withdraw it all over the counter if needs be...your money will be safer in your on hands. Like whats been said you can then pay it into your co-op account and set up all the direct debits.
Steve.

IVA approved!

Yup,get your money out sharpish and dont worry about taking a call from anyone, just tell them you are working with a debt company to set up a plan for repayment and cannot offer anything in the meantime. Remember that if the caller gets too heavy, you just hang up!!!
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.

Barclaycard are also continuing to call me despite the fact I have told them that I am trying to get an IVA going - another creditor's meeting on 29th. I have had letters from Max recovery/Eversheds who are participating in voting in the IVA so I am confused why B/Card continue to harrass for the debt which appears to have been sold to Max Recovery in any event. Perhaps one of the exterts can explain why they do this?

It doesn't matter that you have told them that you are going for an IVA, they will continue to harass you until you are approved, and sometimes afterwards.

As to why they call if they have sold the debt on, obviously no one has told the call centre yet.

I would agree with everyone else Tifosi1 ... get your money out of the bank and hang on to it until you can pay it into your new bank account. Cancel all your direct debits forthwith and set them up manually at your convenience on your new account.

The only problem is that your wages are paid straight into your bank in which case it may be that Barclays might just take out of your current account what they want for the Barclaycard payment. This is what happened to me with LLoydsTSB and spurred me on into sorting my IVA out. With the end of the month approaching is there any way that you can notify your employer to stall payment until you have your Co-op details?

make sure you go with a non-linked account, such as Nationwide.

Don't tell Barclays anything. Go with a basic account for debit transfers and no overdraught.

Get all you montly direct debits set up too.

Barclays and Mercers can be relentless, so make sure you have all your money withdrawn from them before you declare a DMP or IVA.

Get onto your employer first thing Monday morning and get your details transfered. It's a bit of a hassel, but worth the effort.

I have to say Debbie, that Barclays didn't do that with me. Even though I had only made token payments from December to March last year, and they said the amount wasn't enough, they never touched my account.

It is still open at the moment (45p in it!) and they have not been in touch with me at all.

I was £800 overdrawn at the time and they were my main lender £24,000 loan, so I had good reason to worry!

I can see why you would be worried John! We had no overdraft and my Barclaycard was only (!) £6,250. I didn't tell them what I was doing until I had changed everything over though.
