Natwest are owned by RBS, and although they sayy they dont share details between each other, I dont trust them, as RBS were 3 of my creditors

Well I have just tried to open an Account on-line with Natwest and guess what....it was....declined!!
It said due to Bankruptcy...even though I am not!! I suppose an IVA is classed as the same in their eyes eh!
Trouble is Natwest was my only other bank really.
I am going to have to wait and see what happens with my Lloyds AC.
Does anyone know what would happen if we can't open another account....like I said previously most of the others are my creditors.
I saw this ThinkBanking.....but not sure about it.
Oh god I now am getting those feelings again...pre -IVA.
Why is it we are now penalised even though we have a basic Account...we can;t go overdrawn or run off with their money can we?

It does annoy me when they turn down or close your account. OK, they're not making any money out of you, but neither are they going to lose any. As long as your account is in the black you should be allowed to keep it.

I agree Jan, that there should be consistency with dealing with people with poor credit records.

No one knows which way to turn these days.

When we went to open an account at NAT WEST they said it was declined because of bankruptcy I did explain that an IVA is not bankruptcy they said as far as they were concerned it was one and the same!

I do think banks may have to rethink their policies as it seems more and more are finding or will find themselves in financial difficulties and will need to open a different bank account.

I couldn't understand the policy as all I was asking for was a basic account with no overdraft or credit of any sort so minimal risk.

I'm like you Stu - I just hope that Lloyds do the same.
I suppose if they do threaten to close my Account I could go into the branch and plead my case...maybe?
Someone said they do 6 month credit checks, well I have been with them since Feb, so that is nearly 8 months and not a word?

I just dont like Lloyds they werent one of my creditors but they treated me like dirt, they used to freeze my account regularly and everytime the central office offered me a debit card the manager of my local branch used to stop it.

Lloyds were happy for me to keep my account when I went BR. The only reason I closed the account was because I could only have a cash card and get money out of a Lloyds cashpoint.

Well that's good to hear - I have a debit card, and I admit having to take money out of a Lloyds cashpoint is a pain, but hey I'll take that if it means I get to keep the Account!.
I just need to stop worrying about it I suppose....easier said then done!

It would be a real pain for me now as we moved offices at work and there's no Lloyds nearby any more.

Fingers crossed you don't have a problem Kal x

Thanks Skippy.
At first I found it a pain not being able to use the cashpoint...but to be honest I find it easier knowing I just can't go to anyone and get money out (if that makes sense!).

Makes no difference to me - I don't work anywhere near a bank! The town is a car ride away.
