The Cashplus card is a damn fine card. Puts the other prepaid Mastercard to shame. I did it online and 3 hrs later they say APPROVED. I did say to them I didn't want to pay the Active plus £4.95 monthly fee and they say they will refund me the 4.95p fee already charged. I'll use it for the odd treat abroad where a VE or Solo will probably let you down

I am going to apply for one now as I find Solo not accepted by all online. Had to borrow son's card and pay him the cash!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

The only problem with Cashplus is the extortionate rates to call their customer services! I've got a Unique card (which appears to be the same as Cashplus when you look at the web page) and I didn't want to pay £4.95 a month so I rung them up, was on the phone for 20 minutes and I still got charged the £4.95!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

0871 numbers are already used by the banks. Prepaid Maestros are worse. 90p a min!I ripped up my prepaid maestro as I got a real maestrocard with PO pay in facilities.

Still needed the Cashpluscard

When I applied for the gold one, the customer service is 0871 which is charged at 10p/minute.

Hi all
I have thinkbanking with the maestro card. I have to say one of the things that makes me feel happier about the charge is that there are no more charges of any kind, it also protects you from getting any charges from debits etc. So really when you add the cost of paying the prepaid charges it does not make it that expensive, and gives that extra relief that all bills are accounted for at the beginning of the month so you always know how much money you have.

Having worked in a post office for 18 months, I just can't remember any basic accounts allowing paying in at the Post Office that had a maestro card.

It varies on the bank with the PO.

The PO has special contracts with A & L, Barclays, Co-op, Lloyds TSB etc, who you can pay money in and make withdrawals.

However, just about all basic accounts will allow you to *withdraw* money with the PO.

Thinkbanking is not really a basic account, as you have a full maestro capability, and as the PO do not have a special contract with Natwest or RBS, you therefore won't be able to make any withdrawals. You will be able to pay as normal by maestro though.

I agree with all of that Ang, I have the same account. I like the way you get a text when you have a regular payment come into the account such as child benefit. And you can text for your balance when you want without going out. great account and the fee, well what can I say after having to all that interest on loans credit cards etc. Its a drop in the ocean. By the way can i put the fee down as part of my I & E.

I think it depends on who you are with, they may say no as you could get an account that doesnt charge, I have been allowed to offset it against our overtime as we do a lot, it can not hurt to ask you will be no worse off.

There are some great Basic Bank accounts outthere these days. These account is about FREE BANKING. If the Banks lose the OFT test case in 2008 and banks then start to charge for normal account maintanance, people will just downgrade to Basic bank account for free Banking
