Basic Bank Account with Cheque Book

Anyone know if there is such a thing, I've got the Natwest Step account, all running smoothly no problems, but when my daughter has to take money to school, even if it's £1.50 she has to take a cheque and last time this caused her some embarrassment at taking cash as she had to go to Finance office rather than just leaving it in the designated box in the reception area, children do hate to be different at her age. Today I've had to go there and pay the cash for a deposit for a trip she is due to take next July. Just save us a bit of hassle that's all. Many thanks in advance if anyone knows if there is such an account, that I could maybe just put her education money in and write cheques as necessary. HSBC is a no no as they are my main creditor.

I don't think any basic Bank account do have a cheque book.I have looked at them all.

I do have 2 chequebooks but that is a historical thing with the accounts opened prior to IVA with Nationwide and Natwest.

have you thought about poastal orders from the post office. They can be paid into a bank account like any cheque. There is a small charge for these but if you do not need them that often it may be an idea.

hi if i need a check i go to bank and ask them to give me one they look no different to a personall cheque and ive not been charged

Thought about this one and there is no way around this except for asking the bank for a cheque, postal order or perhaps if you have a building society account raising a cheque from that.

It might be adirect transfer from your bank account to the Schools account if they are prepared to give you their bank details!

Have to say that is one big draw back!

Thanks to all, I'd not thought of asking the bank to do a cheque for me, I'll pop in local branch tomorrow and enquire if this is possible for me and if so is there a cost? Save me keep going to the school as there is two more instalments of the trip to pay in Feb and May and I'm sure there will be something else inbetween.

I agree that a postal order may be the answer if you can't get a bank cheque.The postal order looks just like a cheque.
