Hi

Yes I do get charged for my Silver acc, but £7 per month is fine as the extras eg AA cover for both cars and full mobile phone insurance for 2 i phones is a good deal as it would cost an extra £30 per month to do it separately. The basic acc came with visa debit, cheque book and you can pay standing orders and direct debits this accounf is free of charge.

Good Luck

hiya kallis, yes it is a pre IVA account, but a basic one as far as i'm aware, i have a debit card, i turned down the offered overdraft, and the check book just turned up in the post! To be honest i can't remember the last time i wrote a check, there don't seem to be much need these days when you can pay bills, do transfers on line etc.

kaza you are very lucky to be getting all those benifits for £7 with Lloyds. i used to have a platinum account with them which cost £17 per month and insured only one mobile phone, and covered only one car with RAC.

Our co-op account has so far been great, other than their refusal to open an isa for any savings I may make.

Yes, it's odd isn't it -- I assume they feel you shouldn't be saving ( ok to spend though !) !
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

You're lucky to have got a cheque book kat - I presume it's because you are pre iva and it's a full account? I have the basic Nationwide account with just a debit card but it does for me.
We will all have to get rid of our cheque books anyway, as the banks will stop accepting them soon. They have already stopped issuing cheque guarantee cards.

These are sad times in my opinion ;-)

It'll be a pain when they get rid of chequebooks - OH is self employed and a lot of his customers pay him by cheque. Presumably he'll only be able to accept cash, or get a credit card machine.

I have to have cheques for daughters school or it's a queue to the finance office and she really doesn't like doing that x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I haven't got a bank account!!!! [:0]

When we were applying for IVA Hubby opened his, we were advised by CAB to do this than open a joint account because my credit rating was probably really bad already.

I'm now afraid to try for an account incase I would get turned down [:(]

Being in Northern Ireland we have fewer choice than the mainland.

If you did want an account of your own then you could think about one of the ones such as Secure Trust or Thinkbanking. OK you have to pay a monthly fee but you are guaranteed acceptance.

Is that fee because it is a joint account? Seems a lot otherwise.

Yep, it's a joint account. Suppose a thought it was great compared to the fees we were used to.
I do think its ideal for someone thats not good with their money, at least you know all's paid that should be...

Hi, you could also look at the Cashminder Account through the Cooperative bank. It works the same as Secure Trust and Thinkbanking but you don't pay for it and no monthly subscription. Check on their website. It is a good account and I know a couple of my customers have opened up accounts with them.

I'm not sure whether or not the Co-op operate in Northern Ireland.
