We are opening a basic bank account with Lloyds on Monday and were wondering if we ask the bank to transfer our direct debits or is it better for us to do it? Want to get this sorted in advance of taking out the IVA.
Any advice welcome.

I think you need to take advice from the bank, if they are willing to move them for you, why not?

I opened a new account with the co-op in October and they moved any direct debits for me which saved a lot of hassle and time.

When my iva was accepted in the November, my new bank account was rady and waiting.

Good luck

One of the things I did when I changed my bank prior to entering into my IVA was to really have a spring clean of my direct debits. I have never liked direct debits as I think think that actively paying gives me more control over my money.

The spring clean of my bank account means that I have whittled down my direct debits from twelve to four .. just the bare basics, mortage, community charge etc. All the rest I pay when I'm ready to [:)]
