I have received several of these calls, and on each occasion have tried to find out who the caller was. When I asked them who was calling, I was given some strange name that meant nothing and was clearly not the name of any Debt Advice Company. On one occasion I even went as far as requesting a callback, but again was unable to obtain the name of the firm to whom I was speaking. Many of these firms avoid UK coal calling regulations by initiating the call from outside of the UK, a favourite is India.

If anyone on the Forum receives a call of this nature, do try to find out who is calling. If I'm called again I will represent myself as someone with major debt problems actively seeking a solution now. We need to find out who the end user of this information is.

(IVAs) - a controversial alternative to bankruptcy
That's curious, never seen an IVA as controversial in itself, the way in which there advertised maybe. Bad journalism?

Well I've not had any of those calls, but I shan't be happy if I do -I'm ex-directory!

I saw this on breakfast news, was going to post but thought not. They said, complaints about cold calling concerning 'controversial' individual arrangements. This might put some 'not yet fessed up to themselves but losing sleep' people off trying, causing them more stress. I know about debt and solutions from my own journey and being a member of this forum for two years. I had some calls from IVA companies on my old mobile number, what I didnt understnad was how they knew, or if they knew.

I hate cold calling and would never be tempted, whatever the 'offer' I had two claming back your own money from banks last week and one about have I had an accident which wasnt my fault bla bla bla.

These autodialers call every number in a targeted area. Often if you speak to someone they are in a foreign call centre and refuse to give any details as to who they are and their address or phone numbers.

The calls show up on my phone as international, I've had several of these calls and the services on offer range from mobile phones, debt management and holidays I've apparently 'won'.

I'm ex-directory registered with the MPS and TPS to stop marketing calls but still get these annoying calls from time to time.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

I have been receiving these calls over the last few weeks. They have become a source of amusement in my office. I started by just politely explaining that I have just gone BR. Then I started pleading with them (my collegues counted 7 please's - please please please please please please please update your records and stop calling me) I then decided to just hang up this was happening almost everyday. Anyway last week I received one and they always begin with "How are you" then "This is not a sales call" after this I just hung up. It rang as soon as I put it down and low and behold it was the same young lady and I couldn't believe it when she said "That was rude" then hung up!

What a cheek! I tried to call back to tell her that hanging up is not as rude as ignoring someone instructions to not call them anymore but I couldn't get through. I think in future I am just going to ask them to hold the line for a moment then keep them hanging on for ages.

I know another one but I've forgotten their real name. They use AJI as the name give to punters.
