My bike has been stolen from the bike sheds outside our new homes, it was locked up, and in the designated space.Only the frame is left, I got it through the NHS cyclescheme, and i was daft not to insure it, as i am used to leaving it inside the flat where i was living, now i am liable for the whole cost.I'm going to ask for a payment break, so i can replace it,i went everywhere on it,including backwards and forwards to work. I'm upset of course and to be honest, i'm feeling like i should just jack it all in, go BR and enjoy a fresh start.I really have nothing to lose. Pooh bum.
Oh Quark, you do seem to take one step forward and two back sometimes. I am so sorry to hear about your bike being stolen - some people are just lower than scum aren't they?
Can you replace it through the cycle scheme? At least it is slightly cheaper than normal. I take it there isn't room to put it in your flat? Not ideal, I know.

Some companies offer a subsidised bike scheme where they loan the money to buy a bike and it's deducted at source. There may be other types of schemes, but this is what my local council offer their workers.
The police do the same thing. I think you get the VAT knocked off t as well.

God, it's only a bike, but i am so upset about it.If it starts with bikes then i worry about my colleagues cars and we also have families down on the ground floor with young children, i hope they don't get burgled or worse.I've reported it to the police and apparently they have surveillance cameras disguised as something quite unexpected though obviously none of us knows what, funny i did think the odd plastic cow about was a bit strange, what can i say i ? i can be a bit defeatist sometimes, after all this is supposed to be a fresh start in new homes for all of us.I hope this is just a one off and we can all watch out for each other and maintain a strong sense of community, this is our home, how dare anyone take anything from us, right, housing officer is coming round this afternoon, i need a post night shift snooze.Best wishes.
I don't blame you for getting cross about it Quark, I would be as well. Hopefully as you say it's just a one off, but you don't need the extra hassle x
If this was in a designated cycle area of your housing scheme and in a locked area you should be able to claim something from them.... also... if it is reported to the police as stolen get a crime number and make a claim against the criminal injuries board.
Only a thought, buit you might at least get something back for it... also.... if you have household insurance just check the small print and see if it's covered in that... even for just a minimal amount.
If they come back with the "bikes are left at owners risk" you can then say that any insurance would not cover this as the area is obviously not secure enough!
Had the same thing happen with gardening equipment we have in a shared shed years back.

Sorry to hear about your bike, my sons was stolen a few years ago outside a shop in our local town, we did manage to claim on our house insurance, we were allowed to choose another one from a local shop near to us rather than having the money, its worth a try with your insurance..
No luck with getting anything from the bike,the housing association have said they have cctv footage and will pass this on to the police when requested, i'm still gutted and angry though if someone else doesn't get theirs stolen due to any increase in security then that's a positive thing. I shall save for a new cheaper one from Halfords and make sure it is super locked up.
Quark I'm sorry to hear about your bike, with the CCTV if requested they may find the culprit hopefully and bring him/her to justice. I only wished I lived closer to you I have a bike that doesn't see the light of day and you could willingly borrow it until something was sorted out for yourself. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I'm sorry you didn't get any joy with the housing association, but I can't say I'm surprised. There will always be the 'park at your own risk' clause.
I park in a secure police compound, also with CCTV, and we have the same notice!
