We have been with British Gas for many years and they are usually fantastic - I had to call them on Christmas Day last year as we had a leak from our boiler! We have had a couple of problems with them where they have supposedly carried out a repair but there has still been a problem that we have discovered a couple of days later but they always come back again as quickly as possible without any problems. We did originally have plumbing and drains cover with Dynarod (part of British Gas) but they made such a mess of our plumbing a few years ago that I won't touch them with a bargepole but the Boiler/Heating cover is the best on the market in my opinion.

Lots of positives for British Gas that today today when I go home I'm going to see when my cover finishes with my current providor and switch over. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I`m with British Gas and they are very good and normally get out to you very quickly.

I have found that some of the fitters are hit and miss with their quality of work though, needing a re - visit for a few repairs.

My boiler is quite old now and each year the cover has generally gone up as I have to have my boiler repaired generally at leas once a year, but it`s a catch 22 situaution whereby I cannot afford a new boiler so I will just have to keep paying the increased premiums each year whilst British Gas will still cover my boiler.

Another vote from British Gas from me. Prefer to know that any gas work in my house is done by BG fitters and the annual check gives me peace of mind.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

We have the cheaper British Gas cover meaning that we have to pay a £50 call out charge if there's a problem but it's still a lot cheaper than having to pay for repairs. When we had to call them out a few times for the same problem they waived the fee on the later call outs.

I agree about the peace of mind for a boiler check - I'd worry if it wasn't serviced regularly.

Hi on our policy we have an excess of £99 but still so much cheaper than the alternatives - last time they took 2 days and added 2 parts that would have cost us around £1000 or more! so I'm happy with £99!

day 9 without heat or hot water

CORGI say there is sludge in the system and therefore not covered by warranty, meaning any work undertaken must be paid for ! ive held them responsible for the water damage the idiot engineer caused but the brick wall has gone silent. they said they need to do a powerwash of the system which will cost me £460. no way im having anything to do with this lot again. im not doubting the sludge issue, but you can only take so much poor service

now on plumber n03 - a friend of a friend, who is now on the job and says he's done several houses on the estate where we live with the same issue - thanks a lot George Wimpey !! he's confident he can fix but has advised that a new boielr will be required before next winter. I trust this guy though as he says its too big a job for him the new boiler ( scaffolding needed etc ) and has advised gettibg a quote from britsh gas for a new boiler, so this makes me trust him as he's not trying to flog me a new boiler ..

anyway , me thinks the new way fwd is having no heating or hot water; ive quite got used to it now !!!

When BG fixed our system recently they said it was due to dirt in the system - however, because they had not tested the water when they agreed to take us on, they honoured fixing it. They did advise us to have a filter fitted to stop the problem from happening again as otherwise after this repair they could not continue covering us as dirt in the system is not covered under normal circumstances. They fitted the filter for £219 which I thought was ok and because it's been fitted they will still cover us now and they will empty the filter each year when they do the free service. i though this wan't too bad.

A flush of the system is only ususally needed when you have radiators with cold patches etc - the boiler can be protected from the system dirt getting into it by fitting a filter. Sounds to me like CORGI are telling you the more expensive option when a cheaper filter could solve the dirt from attacking your boiler.
