Hi.I am new to the forum. Sent all my papers off today to begin the process for my IVA. Absolutely gutted tonight. Feel very tearful and nervous about what is to come. I am a teacher and well respected in my school...little do they know. I am in 18,500 debt which all began when my husband got laid off. I have recently got involved with payday loans, which has just put the final nail in the coffin.So upset. Just hoping for some kind and supportive words off anyone who has been in my position. Thanks

Thanks for making me feel somewhat normal, if that is possible how i am feeling now..With DSH, and in contact with a lovely man who is sorting stuff out. Changed my mind once and stopped everything. But had to admit to myself this wasn't going to go away and had to get on with it. Just so worried about anyone, apart from my husband who obviously knows, finding out.

These are all very normal feelings. I felt really bad when I finally added things up. Wondered where all the money had gone but then realised a lot of it is interest.

But once you get the approval, the feelings are fantastic. Even though we still have 5 years to go it feels great!!

It's normal to feel like that - I can remember the complete shock when my debts were added up and came to around £65k! You can hold your head high as you're doing something about your debts, not burying your head, and that takes courage x

I remember thinking I was the only person in 50K's (approx) worth of debt...until I found this forum. It's been a godsend to me over the past few years. You are doing something about your debts and working towards your debt free future. x

Our debts (not including the mortgage and secured loan) were £80k+, it is good to know that you're not alone.

I've made some brilliant friends on this forum and there is usually someone about to chat to or ask advice from.

Hi guys, I have to agree with the old school forum'ers! I paid the last payment of my IVA on the 1st June. After 5 long years, at the beginning i never thought i would ever see the end, but i did it and i was soo proud of myself. Everyone is right about when you first add everything up, it was a shock to me too. But people are out to help you. I only found this forum into my last year and it was such a great help, the people are fantastic on here!
I actually got married just 3 weeks ago and just returned from my honeymoon in Mauritius, it was unbelievable! It was nice to come home and know we have a fresh start....definately all worth it.

Hi kt32 and welcome to the forum. I know how you feel about people knowing about your situation. I'd be mortified about anyone finding out about ours. But theres just our debt company my hubby and the forum know our little secret and thats the why i hope it stays. I also work in the public sector. I have recently been on this forum within my working lunch and and it displayed a message from the nhs stating too many people from the nhs as a whole were using the site. Rest assured you are not alone. Good luck on your road to debt freedom x

Hi we have just sent our paper work off too really scary but telling myself that if we don't do this we'll end up with nothing ! Life has dealt us some tough hands so now we are hoping to take control x scary but empowering I think !

I can't go on the forum from work unless I use my phone. Nobody outside of very immediate family knows of my IVA and that's the way I hope it will stay!
