I want to go from brown to blond using home kits. Does anyone have any tips on lighteners, dyes etc? Not done this before and a bit nervous...eek

These days I only trust my hairdresser with the paintbrush - having had so many hair disasters in my youth!

Lesley's daughter is well into her beauty tips, so she may be able to offer some direct advice if she is around later on.

Same here Mel! I rarely colour my hair at all now, and when I do it's always a dark colour at home - less likely to have a disaster that way!

Always strand test! I've had a few disasters in my time too.

Violet shampoos can stop it looking yellow. :)
Take care,

I think Lisa and Helen also do home lightening - they may have some pointers as well.

Wella hair streaking kit is good, thats what i usually use.
My daughter has just qualified as a hairdresser and she would recomend that one too. She also uses it on her own hair.
Good thing with lightening is if you dont like it, its very easy to just colour over it again.
Its in a pale blue box with a lady with short blonde hair on it.
I get mine from Asda

Hi there, Hannah is at work at the minute but I will ask her but know that Lisa's daughter is more qualified to advise on hair, Hannah is more into beauty and I'm often the guinea pig for her. Had a facial and a pedicure last night all free of charge of course. x

Thanks everyone. I'll be popping into Boots tomorrow to check out your tips. The strand test sounds like a great idea!

Always do a strand test and a skin test, my daughter is highly allergic to hair dye, she can tell you which chemical but I can't remember....to the point of the skin test gave her blisters, worse case scenario had she not adhered to instruction she would be dead!

Don't do it! I did it once and it was a disaster and I ended up pink and orange. I would dye my hair dark at home, but I wouldn't ever lighten it.

It's certainly different!

My worst home disaster was dieing my hair black when I was about 19 and it came out all patchy! Not a good look, especially when you're a police officer!
