Hi all,

We're hopefully fast approaching discharge, and due to Mrs. Wen getting her new job we are going to need to lease a car. No new car, no new promotion.

I have looked around at a few places who will consider us, although all say we should wait until after the discharge date as that will look better on the application.

However, they all say they require written confirmation of date of discharge. Apart from paying over £60+(?) for a certificate of discharge, is there any other way of officially proving discharge?

I had a copy of my credit report from Experian sent to me and it had the date of discharge on, so I would have thought on seeing this, surely this would be proof enough?

When you are discharged the entry on the insolvency register changes to show that you are discharged. I would print of a couple of copies and try and use that to start with.

If you do have to buy an official certificate of discharge and send it to a company, find out if they actually return it. Sainsburys had a policy (don't know if it's still true) of destroying the certificate when they had finished with it - £60 in the shredder!

When's your discharge date?

Thought you'd know all Skippy!!!!

That's good to know regarding the Insolvency Register, so worth a shot if nothing else!!

For the sake of £60 then of course i'd pay it if it meant getting the car and Mrs. Wen getting her promotion, it's just a little bit of a cheek in my opinion!!

Just over 10 days now, I just cannot believe how quick it's gone. I'll be updating the blog after discharge with our experiences over the year and what the future holds... (don't want to do it just yet incase a BRU comes out of the blue in the last week!!!)

I wish I did know all!

The notification of discharge only stays on the website for 3 months from the date of discharge, so don't forget to print it off! I agree that it's a cheek to charge £60 for a piece of paper - I want it printed on parchment and framed for that!

I found that my year went really quickly as well - much quicker than I thought it would! I can't see you getting a BRU now as they have to give you 28 days to respond so you should be safe!

Good luck to Mrs Wen with the promotion, let us know how she gets on.

BTW was it you or Mrs Wen who supports Man Utd? I seem to remember a few discussions about the footie!

The Official Receiver ought to write to confirm that you are discharged as well. Did you get a letter Skippy?

No, you only get a letter if you get early discharge. Unfortunately they screw you for £60 if you don't!

That is not right - they should not make the distinction between early and normal.

I agree. I haven't paid for the certificate on principal and will only do so if I really need it. I've managed to update my credit files (apart from Tesco) without it, so hopefully I won't need it!

Mrs Wen is ManU... I support a more stressful breed - Arsenal!!

I could write a letter to the OR and ask if I am discharged yet? Surely they'd have to reply and say yes? lol

Good for Mrs Wen!

They'll probably write back and say that you need to buy the certificate from the court and not answer the actual question!

I suspect you're probably right!!!

Skippy, I just read your blog about your full Nationwide account still running with a full debit card.

I had a similar surprise today from Lloyds TSB! I had a statement through showing £1.40 still there and that my account is the Classic Plus account. I am tempted to ring up and ask for a new card and see what they send. Like you, this was declared to the OR, but nothing seems to have frozen or anything.

Out of interest Skippy, have you asked the Co-op regarding upgrading your account at all?

I got my chequebook through from Nationwide today - well actually 3 of them! After I ordered it nothing turned up so it was stopped and they ordered me an emergency chequebook. Both turned up today with a third one for good measure!

It might be worth asking Lloyds. My view was if they sent a cash card I hadn't lost anything as I've still got my Co-op account.

I didn't ask the Co-op to upgrade the account - they wouldn't give me a savings account, so I couldn't see them giving me a debit card! The earliest I've heard of anyone having a Cashminder account upgraded is 3 years from discharge.
