A sympathetic examiner will allow you to keep some of the money to pay for exceptional items such as childcare. But you can also postpone the appointment if there is any fear of you losing this money.

Could you go into the bank and ask for more than £250 to be drawn out?

Yes I suppose I could - last time I tried on Wednesday the bank said that this wasn't their policy and that I had to withdraw 250.00 and that was why I couldn't withdraw more - don't want to lose this money as i am relying on it to pay my child's nursery until I get paid again at the end of September - I wonder if I could transfer it over tonight to my husband's account or would it not reach it when it had been frozen as it were tomorrow? I wonder how they view money already in transit as it were?

It's your money - not the Bank's! Ask to speak to a manager if the counter staff refuse.

Fudge

Take your passport with you to the bank, they usually only make a fuss if you do not have any proper identification with you.

OK will try that - I did try my hardest on Wednedsay but they said I had to give them prior notice to wanting to take more than 250 pounds out and that I had to phone ahead to let them know I went into the branch with all my ID etc but I will have to go there tomorrow before my BR appointment otherwise will have to ring and cancel it and rebook. What does happen to payments that are pending i.e. money transfers? does that mean they belong to the OR?

I understand how you feel Fudge - I was terrified the night before I went to court. Dave and I rowed on the way there and he told me to get out and walk - until I pointed out it was actually my car! Once I got there and the little Hitler on security had let us in everything changed - I felt a lot calmer as the clerk was lovely. I started shaking again before I went in to see the judge, but I relaxed a bit when his mobile started ringing!

I can't see any reason that you will lose the money that you have transferred. When I left the court I was given a letter with the details of the OR's office should I need to contact them. I would ring the OR (if you haven't already heard from them) when the money clears and explain why you need the money. As I said before, they will not leave you without money to live. BR is not a punishment, more of a 'retraining' exercise - the idea is that you have enough money to remain solvent. Just remember the OR and their examiners are human beings and may well have children themselves. They are only doing a job, and most of them will be reasonable.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Thanks! feel so stupid that I have left it all to the last minute don't know what is wrong with me - think I will go in there first and try to make the bank pay up with my passport etc and then if that doesn't happen will explain to the OR why I need the money that is left in my account it really is for my child's nursery bills etc - am hoping that they will allow me to keep the account as its not a od or credit one just a basic one but don't think that will happen! cannot eat any tea wish it were over already!

Fudge

It will be over very soon, and you will feel much better I am sure. Tomorrow's appointment will be all done and dusted in a matter of minutes and then you can start to move forward. I will have a bar of fruit and nut for you to ease your nerves [;)].

Thanks Pippa you are very kind! I am eating chocolate fingers to try and stem my nerves - how long were you in court for?

My appointment was at 9am, I left court at nearly 20 past. In Cardiff you dont see the judge, just the court clerk, she checked my papers, took my payment and i signed on the dotted line.
I don't know if not seeing the judge is the case else where though.
Was a strange feeling leaving court, I dont know what I expected but I felt it couldnt have been that straight forward surely, but it was.

I know its really hard to stop the brain activity and the nerves, but you will feel much better tomorrow, promise.

that was quite good going then 20 mins! it seems so weird that such a momentous thing can be done in such a short space of time, yeah I know it will be OK just last minute hitches need to get to the bank and withdraw all my cash asap in the morning - my BR app is at 9.30 and the bank opens at 9am so think it will be a mad dash - also not sure of what will happen afterwards i.e. will I be able to get a new bank account to get my wages paid into, need to tell my child tax credit people to transfer the money into my husband account until I get sorted with a new bank account, what is the BI going to be on the house! all these questions, have already managed to have a spectacular row with husband about it tonight!

To be honest you still will have a thousand and one questions tomorrow after court or at least I did. But that said once the OR starts their side of things you will find it all moves quite quickly and you will start to get the answers you need.

Good luck tomorrow, let us know how you got on.

Good luck for tomorrow

As you go think that you're following in the steps of Oscar Wilde, Ken Barlow (corrie),Adam Faith, Keith Floyd, Sir Walter Scott, George Best, Kim Basinger (believe it or not!), Neil Hamilton (exMP),
Count Tolstoy,Michael Barrymore.

I think I'll end there,

That's got to make you feel better!!
