I have recieved my new pre paid Bread maestro card - many thanks to John as this was a result of filling in your survey.

I am going to load any spare money on this to save for Christmas 2008 (sorry to mention it so early!!! but want to be prepared)

I phoned the post office for an info pack on the Christmas savings club but have recieved nothing, also no mention of it on their website. Not sure if they are still going to do it or not, but as it is vouchers I am not so interested as I was before....

Going to stick with my Bread card[:)]

I'm going to do the same Emma. I have 2 (one from John and one that was free as another pre-pay card that I had was cancelled) and I use one for petrol and I'm going to save for Christmas on the other one. I'm a bit upset that they are going to start charging 2% per transaction though!

Does that comapre to other pre paid cards on the market, as I must admit I have not looked at any other ones?

They all must charge fees, but is this comparable if you know Skippy?

There are so many different fees - Virgin charge 2.95% per transaction, and Cashplus charge either £4.95 a month or £1 per transaction. I'm going to stick with Bread as I can't justify paying for another card and it isn't too bad.

thanks Skippy, it is better tp save for things this way than my old way of putting everything on a credit card and paying loads of interest...
I probably used to pay for purchases a few times over on credit cards by the time all the interest went on[:(]

I will stick with my bread card[:)]

Hi, I put £20 on my Bread Card today and its showing a balance of £19, apparently it costs £1 every time you load money to it and 3% of every transaction

I loaded mine at the Post Office and it cost me 75p. It's 25p if you do it via bank transfer. From February it will cost 2% of each transfer and at the moment it's free to use.

Hi.

i have a mycashplus mastercard. I chose to pay £4.95 pr month and with that I can have as many transactions I want no other fees, Its free to top up at the post office as well. I dont use it for cash tho as there are fees for this just internet and across counter purchases works well as I know only need to have 4.95 or above for their monthly fee.

I know that Tuxedo charge £4.95p/mth for unlimited use, I think this is cheaper than the others asking for 2% per transaction. However on the other hand I believe Tuxedo does not have a chip & pin whereas Bread Card does. I believe its always best to do your research before signing up to anything.

I must agree with iva experts, look at money supermarket, they list the best, however as they quite rightly point out, what do you need it for etc, chip and pin etc shop around. As once you have one you dont want to then see abetter one for your circumstance, I use mine for shopping and petrol, and as a back up when travelling and have no cash.

regards and good luck

I applied for a Cashplus card but they wouldn't give me one without me sending them utility bills, which I don't have. I presume it's because I only moved in November, but that's why I ended up with the Bread card. I only use it for petrol (saves me having to take cash from the petrol envelope!) so it'll only cost me a couple of quid a month in usage fees.

I put £30 on my bread card ages ago and bought a travelodge £19 room online for when I visit my family in June. Tonight I paid for two cinema tickets on the balance or almost all of it! Daughter and I went to see PS I Love you, I was saving it for emergency diesel or something but this is an emergency, eldest daughter is in labour and it helped pass a couple of hours away! Mind you home now and still no news..ooh the wait! I'll top it up again with another £10 at some point and save it again for my emergency.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
