British Gas have cancelled account and set up a new account. They have done this as the official receiver has been in touch. I would like to know what business the official receiver had in telling them. I have never owed any money to British Gas. Please advise.

Hi Robert,

Are you bankrupt or in an IVA?

I'm afraid BG do cancel accounts, and they are likely to have found the information from the Insolvency Register.

They usually set you up with a new one though.

We had the same thing happen to us, if you had a special deal i.e web based bills etc duel fuel deal make sure the new account reflects this as ours didn't at first until I moaned at them ,and they doubled our DD. We ended up changing to a different supplier.

The usual reason I expect...ignorance.

Robert, if I were you I'd take my business to someone who appreciates it!

I had exactly the same. In the end they wrote it all off, despite my IP's team spending a completely disproportionate amount of time trying to resolve it!

No idea why they do it, it must be company policy the same as HSBC and First Direct.

This is something I have to look forward to I guess, as British Gas are my dual fuel supplier...Would it be worth changing my account into my partners name, as she`s not in an IVA?

We are about to go into an IVA, creditors meeting in the next two weeks, does your IP have to inform every single company you have accounts with ie, Electric, Gas, Water, Phone etc about whats happening even though they are not part of your IVA?

We are not with British Gas but im thinking if every service/account you have is being informed for no particular reason ( you have no debt whatsoever with them) its like just making things worse for the person in the IVA?

baldy I've not heard of that, nor seen anything on my look through on here. Presume its something that would have been mentioned to us during paper gathering stage. I've not had to send details of water, gas, electric or phones. How would your IP know who you are with if no information has been sent.

I figure its like has been said, someon in the company is employed to sit and go through the register and put in every single name that comes up just to see if its one of theirs. !!! daft eh?

Well we had to supply details of all our gas, electric, water etc to the ccccs. We are in credit with them all.

But i know we were told that our mortgage company would be informed of our IVA just for their reference.

Like i said it just seems to be stirring up trouble. Most of these companys nowdays look for any angle they can get to charge you more or to just make things difficult.

Yeah if your not running your account as it should be ie up to date, and the right amount paid then by all means close it or change it, but not just so they can make a few bob more.

Do IP's need to supply all our utility bills for our IVA proposal? We did.

I would just change supplier if you can get a better deal. I was once with British Gas and they ripped me off to the tune of £500 in just the year I was with them.

They refused to pay it back saying I had used X amount of electric and gas even though I was never in. They reckoned I used £2000 of both in less than 10 months! I did not even have central heating lol.

I issued legal proceedings against them, I had my money back within a week hahaha [:D]
1st payment Oct 2008, last payment Dec 2013. Certificate received March 2015 due to PPI claim.

You`ll have been asked to disclose your utility bills as proof of your outgoings, that`s all baldy
