Yep - it's one more that I'd manage! I have bought the Hairy Dieters recipe book though so I may be learning to cook...

We had this around 3 years ago, looked great but in reality as soon as we could we stopped paying. Total nightmare! We had the top policy, supposed to cover everything, they come out to check everything prior to even giving you the plan. Nice guy came out said everything was ok, check included electrics, plumbing, boiler the lot. Then a few weeks later we had a problem with the central heating, they sent two guys out who practically condemned everything in the house! Condemned the electrics( use at you peril) slated the work that had been done in the attic regarding the electrics and plumbing and got the original guy from British Gas in deep trouble. We had condemend stickers everywhere!
They will also probably try to sell you a new boiler at double the price you can get one for!

Our next door neighbours have had to replaster and redocorate because of British Gas mess up.

They told them they had a blocked gas pipe to their fire in the dining room and took all the plaster off the wall to get to the pipes, only to find out it was the fire itself that was faulty after all, after the BG engineer told then "No it was not the fire".

Also, if a BG engineer tells you your boiler is out of date and they cannot get parts, get a second opinion or do a search on the parts yourself.

We had the full cover when we first started the IVA, we dropped the electrics cover off after a year to cut the cost down a bit. Unfortunately it's one of those, "damned if you do (expense) damned if you don't (boiler dead)".

Our system is quite old and we have relied on British Gas at least three times a year for call outs & servicing, this would have ruined us without the cover.

Be aware though, after a certain time, they will question your policy if you are calling out for the same problem due to an old system, i.e replacing radiators/pumps, due to dirty water in the system causing corrosion. After our last call out it was heavily "hinted" this could void our cover in the future.

Just need to hold out for another four months [:)].

This cover is always included in our I&E, our IVA company have always encouraged us to protect ourselves from costly unforseen circumstances. At the end of the day, it's what suits you personally, how old your system is now and how old it will be by the end of your IVA.
