Britons urged 'not to let financial resolutions go to waste'

Among the 16 million people in the UK who made new year's resolutions, over a fifth stated that they would improve their finances in 2007, a new report reveals.

According to research by Unbiased.co.uk, 43 per cent of those Britons aiming to address their finances hoped to reduce their spending and budget better, with a further 38 per cent seeking to overcome their debts.

However, the firm states that 4.3 million people who started 2007 with a new year's resolution will have given up by the end of January.

Commenting, Karen Barrett, marketing director of Unbiased.co.uk, says: "It is encouraging to see how many people intend to get their finances in order in 2007, however it is all too easy to let good intentions go to waste."

James Falla, director of Thomas Charles, recently suggested that there have not been improvements in the nation's attitude towards borrowing money.

According to Mr Falla, attitude towards financial responsibility among young people is "becoming worse, not better".
