Does anyone know if BT will let you have a landline and broadband if you are in an IVA - I can pay a deposit but understand their pay and call is incompatible with braodband. I work from home so have to have it. BT was not a creditor but I am splitting from partner and current BT account is in his name although I can show I pay it and have done so for the last 2 years.
Hi, we moved house recently and set up the phone and broadband with BT. We didn't have any problems and we weren't with BT in our last property. I don't know if they did a credit check though??
here is the problem - I am moving - the phone line is in partners name as is current house. He would not agree to transfer it to my name in any event even if I was staying and without his consent BT will not transfer it.
Yes they do credit checks if you have not had a BT line in your name within the last 6 months.
Unfortunatley, I was in the same position as yourself, BT would give me a landline but wouldn't allow me broadband 'due to my circumstances' they would only allow me a pay as you go dial up - which was no use to me at all, in the end I asked a relative to get a landline installed in my house along with a broadband connection.
I have home phone and BT total Broadband with Broadband talk. I wasn't in my IVA when I took it out, but was in a DMP, with a few defaults on my credit file. I had no problems at all.
Mind you, I have been with BT since the year dot, so don't know if that makes a difference.
I've had no problems either with them, or the broadband.

As I took great delight in telling the BT sales person last week there Broadband was an over priced nightmare! We lived in a flat and every time someone else logged on in the block we were kicked off, it was slow and extremely expensive - we were paying over £20 a month. We're now with Sky and haven't had any problems and only pay £5 a month.
We also pay £5 a month and get free calls 24/7 with Sky, including overseas. The sales person told me that they could reduce my line rental to £15 a month - we only pay £11 now...
I get free phone calls as well for a fiver, but I'm not really bothered about overseas as I never call anyone!
I agree it would be a pain to be booted off all the time, but it's not a problem I have had.
My broadband is included in my monthly payment to BT, which hasn't gone up, and it's coming up to 12 months since we took it out. Prior to that I was with AOL (which I loved), but it was £35 a month (top package), which was way too expensive.

we pay £43 per month for BT phone and broadband, unlimited download, (thanks to son and his 360, we had to upgrade!) I never phone anyone, as I am a Billynomates, so we have no call charges at all.!
I am happy with the service, although it did keep going off at one time but is ok now, we get about 7mb which is good as we live quite close to the exchange
I take it you are on Option 3 then Jane, couldn't manage without the unlimited downloads. Daughter has a PS3!

I'd add that those who can't get the £5/mth Sky deal because of the exchange not being upgraded, whoever you are with, if you are happy with them and within the last 3 months of your contract, give their 'cancellations' a ring and you'd be amazed at what deals they may offer you. I now only pay £9.49/mth for BT instead of £15.99 by just threatening to leave!
BT wouldn't do anything for us. They did offer us 250 text messages from our land line worth £20 a month though if we went back to them! When I pointed out that it wouldn't be a saving as I'd never use them she went quiet and said goodbye!
Did she offer that before or after you called them an overpriced knightmare? lol
I would rather move to O2 or Sky as I am not too fond of BT as a corporation, but the cheapest I can get is £17 from either of them as I don't have an upgraded exchange here in the sticks!! Now where did I put that pitchfork?
