I think it's a case of 'suck it and see'.

Santander wanted to mug me for over £1600...on a Fiat! I couldn't get the security image to work on the swiftcover site so will try again tomorrow. I hope I don't have to go down the family route! I'd much rather it was all straightforward and normal.

This is a bit scary. Credit checked for car insurance?

I renewed in Nov a month prior to my IVA being accepted. Hope there aren't problems when I come to renew this Nov.

I've never had a problem and have just renewed mine. Ok, it's with the same company but it's all gone through ok.

Mine's going through at the moment .. Direct Line !! Due for automatic renewal at the end of the month, but road tax runs out at the same time and I can't tax the car until the new certificate arrives. So I phoned them up and they ran through the renewal and have issued (posted) the docs right away -- so I am assuming it went through OK.

Direct Line came in at £1600 and Co-op £1300. So as you see I am very limited in who I go to. Only the four I mentioned came in under £1300. If I have to go with one of the expensive guys, my insurance will almost treble (I never got round to updating my address on the last policy and the hike is all down to my postcode). Even the company i was with before wanted £118 per month and £300 upfront! Does anyone else have premiums this high and was it a problem?

Disgusting prices for a small Fiat! Our 5 year old Skoda is just under £200 a year fully comp with 15 years no claims and that is with Royal and Sun Alliance.

I did try Direct Line and More Than when I had the renewal through and they were both coming out at over £400 so I decided that I would stick with the one I have.

Hmmm ... mine's a 9 year old Skoda Fabia (never again -- but that's another story!), similar NCD to your's, Jan, protected, Fully comp, social, domestic, pleasure (not in a Skoda!) and business use, two named drivers ( one on a provisional), came in at £159 this year (plus 10% for installments). Must be the idyllic area we live in :-)

I absolutely love my Skoda and would have another one tomorrow if I could! It's an Octavia.

We don't pay anything extra for doing instalments.

Yes, Jan, (off topic I know ... sorry) but I have heard the Octavia is far better. The particular year model of my Fabia is, apparently, plagued with problems, according to the skoda forum.

Meant to say that your premium is pretty good considering you have a provisional licence holder on there.

This is why I stay with Direct Line -- every time I speak to them I make sure that they are definitely aware the wife is on a provisional! Mind you, my excess doubles if she has a prang!

No, I think that's correct!

Direct Line quoted me more than double with a much higher excess and I had to pay extra for a courtesy car!
