Hi rexy,
You're in the right place - browse through this website and its forums and you'll notice there are some excellent IPs offering accurate and non-judgemental advice (for free!).

I've been trying to enter into an IVA (or other solution) with a popular DMP/IVA company for over a month and things were really dragging and time was running out before we defaulted. Since joining this form, my numerous questions have been answered and I've found a superb IP.....things are moving very quickly and the advice is top notch!

Good luck!

Best

Hi OW
Thankyou for your reply.
For the past two weeks I have had dealings with a well known IP firm concerning a lump sum iva.
However, the individual that has been dealing with my husband and I is very negative and just told us to come back to her when we had arranged finance to cover a lump sum iva. No guidance was given as to the amount and although we dont want sympathy (we got ourselves in this mess!), someone who at least seems interested and on our side would be a start!
Would you be able to tell me which IP you are using?
Thanks again
Rexy

Hi Rexy,
We're now with Melanie Giles (http://www.melaniegiles.com/), a reputable IP, who offers excellent non-judgemental advice (as evidenced in the different threads on this forum). Since going with Melanie and team, we are moving very swiftly towards a solution to our debt problems, know exactly what information to provide and what to expect when going through the IVA process.

A problem with the prevous company I was with was that their debt advisor (let alone IP) was not easily accessible - I had to wait to be contacted and they didnt contact me when they said they would (very frustrating!). We were also four weeks on and still no further than collating information abd putting plans together!.

Conversely, Melanie's team are easily contactable (weekends too!) and indeed Melanie is frequently in this forum answering questions that concern many of us who are considering an IVA or entering into the process. I would definately recommend you at least contact Melanie (via the forums or her website?) for a chat about your circumstances.

Which IP/IVA firm are you with now? They dont sound very understanding or appear to be providing you with all the information necessary for you to make an informed choice.

Best

Hi OW
Best not name the firm as I would probably get in hot water if I named them. I can only assume that we have been unlucky with the designated IP as the firm has had many positive comments on this forum.
We are looking to put forward a lump sum iva of approx £40000.
Any comments on likelyhood of being accepted as total joint debt is approx £98000.
Thanks again
Rexy

Hi Rexy (and OW thank you for your kind words!)

Your offer looks like being a good one, and I regularly put forward similar settlements to creditors - indeed I am writing one right now for a client! The sooner this is sorted out for you, the sooner you can put things behind you and move forward. And the benefits for your creditors - they get paid a lot earlier than waiting five years.

I am sorry that your IP has chosen to leave you out in the cold with regard to assistance in raising the money. This is something that, whilst I am no expert in the raising of finance merely repaying it, I do like to keep a close eye on and make sure my clients are getting the benefit of good, impartial advice and that any mortgage applications progress within a satisfactory timescale. Have you got a broker looking into this for you - as I assume you are referring to an equity release.

IPs are well paid for acting in IVAs, and you might like to read one of my recent blogs with regard to chosing an advisor which might give you some tips.

Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner for over 20 years.

Hi Melanie
Thankyou for your reply last week.
My husband and I are looking to put forward a lump sum iva.
We have now had a secured loan agreed for £40000 to put forward an offer against a total debt of approx £100000.
How long on average does it take to prepare and put forward a proposal to the creditors and also the timescale for the creditors meeting to take place.
I have left my details on your voicemail and would appreciate if you could contact me.
Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rexy

One of my support staff will be in touch with you very shortly. An IVA can be put together in 24 hours if necessary, but the reality is usually 3-4 weeks providing you give your IP all of the information they require.

We will speak to you off line with regard to the secured loan - I am not a great fan of them, but it may be appropriate to your specific circumstances.
