Me and my husband currently have debts of around £50k,accumulated from bad luck and a bargain house that wasn't such a bargain, that we were quite happy paying off,not easily, but at least just within budget, until I was made redundant.I am now scared that if I don't find a job soon we will be getting even more in debt, but as I have always worked within financial services know that an IVA would affect me getting another job in financial services. Is there any way that just my husband can have an IVA(as im earning no income anyway)even though some of the debt is in joint names,so that the debts are getting paid, with a payment we can afford, whilst not jeopardising my chance at another job?

Hi azr and welcome to the forum

Your husband can take out an IVA without you, but you will still be held liable for any joint debts, and as your creditors may not be repaid anything under your husband's IVA until the end of the first year (this is quite normal!) then the joint creditors will hound you directly.

I would suggest that you try to find a job outside of the financial services industry if you feel that you will not be successful with an IVA on your record. Are you in a position to propose IVA's based on your husband's salary alone?
