I moved to USA three years ago and left a lot of debt behind about £75,000. I am thinking of coming back in a couple of years and was wandering if I could start iva from here now so I dont get hounded by creditors when I get back

Hi there and welcome to the forum

If you lived in the UK during the last three years then it is possible for you to propose an IVA. When did you actually emigrate?

I have a few clients living in the US and Canada, and they manage their IVAs very well from afar.

Hi,

I believe that as long as it is not more than three years since you left, that you can apply for an IVA. If it is more than that, I'm really not sure.

Hopefully one of the professionals will be on to assist with this.

If you are within the three years, I would get something sorted as soon as possible. Visit www.iva.com for a list of companies and reviews. Contact one or two and you will receive free and impartial advice as to all the options open to you.

Then as Jan says you really do need to get your skates on if you are seriously going to explore this as an option.

Click on the expert link on the left hand side of the page - you can find the contact details for any of the professionals who post on here.

Send an email (a phone call would probably be too expensive) to one or two. You will receive quick contact and hopefully be able to get the ball rolling quickly.

I am not a professional gone-to-us. I am just a forum expert. There are professionals on there such as Melanie Giles - she is the top one on the experts page.

Give her link a click, she comes highly recommended on the site.

It should be possible, but you do need to get something going now. Send an email and get the ball rolling.

Please do. I know Melanie has clients from overseas and if it all comes together, you should be ok.

Any questions or advice, you know where we are.
