Nothing to stop you , but they could take money out of your account without your permission.
Thats what the Halifax told me today !

Might be better getting an account with a bank that you have no debts with,

That is not a good ides. Open a bank account with a non-creditor bank as Mish has suggested.

As advised above the best thing to do is open a new basic account without any credit facilities.

You could try the following accounts as long as you dont have any debt with them:

- Lloyds Classic Account
- Natwest Step Account
- Barclays Card Cash Account
- Halifax Easy Account.

Best of Luck !

Good evening,

They could take money out of your account without your permission if you have debts with the same bank.

Creditors have the right of set-off, which means they can take your wages to "set-off" against other monies owed to them. If you are not overdrawn and do not have loans or credit cards with your bank then you do not need to open a new bank account.

Please open a bank account with no overdraft facility. Creditors will generally insist that you do not incur future credit which includes allowing your bank account to be overdrawn.

Kind regards,
