I moved to the USA from UK in 2006. I have debts in the UK and have offered ex gratia payments to settle these but creditors will not accept. I have been told there is no reciprocal agreement between USA & UK to reclaim debt. I have been very poen about my circumstances and they know where I am. Can they come after me here in USA?

Hi maureen.w

As far as I understand, there is no reciprocal agreement. If you return to the UK, then yes your creditors will hound you. However, if you have made an offer to these creditors and they have turned you down, there is no reason why you cannot enter into an IVA (providing you meet the criteria) and be able to pay it from the states.

I am sure a qualified IP (those that regularly post on here) will be along to give you the best advice as I am just someone who is paying off their debts!!!!!
