We have been in an IVA for a year and our review is at the end of July. We rent through a private landlord and he has informed us that he wants to sell the property so we have to find a property quickly. We have found another house (3 beds as we have three children) but it is £55 a month more than now and we need to raise £2,000 for deposit etc. Our agreement with Accuma states that we have to be up to date with payments at review? Can we have three payments breaks to raise this money. Many thanks.

Hi gemini

You will need to check the wording of your proposal - but I would have though a payment break is a definate possibility as your circumstances can easily justify the need and sense of this. If not, do you have any family members who could help out?

Hello Gemini,

If you fall into difficulty and are unable to make the payments to your IVA , it is possible to agree a payment holiday with the IP. The months which you miss will normally be added to the end of the agreement. However you need to get this confirmed by Accuma as soon as possible.

I agree with the other posters on this, you should be able to take a payment break if your proposal stated this was allowed - you are best to speak to your IP about this in the first instance.

Welcome to the Forum Gemini,

I agree with all who have posted, the best way forward would be to contact your I.P and express your concerns. As Melanie stated your change in circumstance can be justified so I do not see why there would be a problem getting a payment break.

Many thanks for your useful posts. We have always found Accuma more than helpful and will give them a call today. Luckily we do have a wonderful family who will all chip in. Wonderful forum by the way, I have been reading it for months and have normally found answers to most of my questions.

Hi All
Just a quick question on payment breaks. Are payment breaks allowed for things like christmas ETC where more money is spent even on a tight budget and also the longer peroid bewteen getting paid in early December and not getting paid until end of January? or is it for emergency things only?

Hi Adam
The payment breaks are more for an emergency than for things like christmas etc. Things like sickness having to replace a car thats needed to work, redundancy those types of thing.
