Hi, just found this site and already its. helping understand the problems we have "I thought it was just me", anyway we have just woken up to the fact we are introuble and need help to sort it out, we have not missed any payments on cards, mortgage, car etc yet but this month its going to hit us from all sides, as we have been living on cards and debts> robbing Peter to pay Paul and everything is now maxed out, can we start looking at IPs now or do you have to have court action and non payments etc
hi niallj, welcome to the forum and hope that you do find it helpful and supportive as well, i would definately start the ball rolling now that you have made that realisation etc, from what i have gleaned from this site Melanie Giles maybe someone that you need to speak to as soon as is physically possible, don't worry we have all be where you are now and you are definately not alone, good luck and best wishes for the future and one that is debt free.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
I recommend that you start looking for an IP now, it doesn't matter if you are still keeping up with payments, the fact that you appear to be using credit to pay for things means that you are insolvent.
Visit www.iva.com where you will find reviews for IP's.
There are a few who post on here, who come highly recommended. Melanie Giles is one. Vincent Bond are a company who post on here, and there are a couple of debt consultants you can phone. Viki.w and Andy Davie.
All the details can be found on the experts page.
I recommend that you phone two or three to make sure. All of your options will be explained to you and you can then make the right decision for you.
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

I would say that now would be an excellent time to start looking at your options. There may, for example, need to be a bank change and so the quicker you speak to a professional about this matter then the sooner you will know what needs to be done and also, of course, what all your options are. You do not have to have missed payments, the fact that you have identified that there is a problem is the main thing. I would estimate that upwards of 90% of my clients had never missed a payment before they called me.
I would suggest you visit www.iva.com have a look round, read the reviews etc and take time to speak to 2 or 3 providers before you make your next move.
Regards.

The other posters are absolutely right - it is never too early to take advice, and clients who do so may well find that their problems are not as bad as they seem. We often comment in the office that had someone taken advice six months earlier, they may have been able to avoid formal insolvency proceedings but making some minor adjustments to their budget and negotiating with creditors at an earlier stage.
An insolvency practitioner will be able to run through all of the options available to you, so that you can decide whether the time is right to address your debts.
Hey Niallj, welcome to the forum. You're in the right place here for advice and support. I hadn't missed a payment on any of my debts, but knew that I was running out of credit. I googled "debt" and eventually came across this site. There are lots of options and you need the best solution for you. Talk to a professional this week and you'll feel so much better. Please keep posting. X
We were in exactly the same situation and had not missed payments when we contacted our IP,
They helped us to recognise that by using credit to pay credit we were getting deeper and deeper into debt.
We are now moving towards getting an IVA and stopped paying our creditors in October.
We shopped around but chose Melanie Giles to represent us. I would recommend chatting to at least a couple of IP's. We chose Melanie because Tina (one of the advisors) gave me far more information and advice than others I spoke too. They are also not at all pushy as other companies were.
This is only my own experience but remember that you need to work with someone you feel you can trust, you have to disclose lots of information about yourself and your circumstances and I have found IVA advice bureau completely supportive, factual and non judgemental.
Hope you find a solution to your situation soon.
