There are some companies who allow for smoking but is all dependent upon the company. There is no fixed rule for an allowance for this as far as I am aware.

Anything on top of your allowed claim will have to be funded from other allowances.

Have you tried doing the patches or the gum?

I agree it's hard to give up, I did it in 2006 but have slipped off the wagon in times of stress but shhhhh hubby don't know!

Speak with your IP definitely as sometimes some posters have been allowed an allowance. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi - we both smoke and put down £120 pcm (we smoke more but worked on the guidelines). Grant Thornton requested a £40 reduction on this so we are allowed £80 pcm. It's helped me to cut down a bit using patches and just smoking in the evening.

The best thing to do is be honest with yourself and your IP about how much it costs you. You can then have a discussion on possible ways of reducing the cost if necessary. Ultimately it will be up to the creditors to decide what is acceptable and you will then have to decide if that is manageable.

Have you gone to your GP srugery as the support from the practise nurses is very good.

It is down to your individual IP and your proposal as to what is allowed.

I must admit that I think £50 as an occasional cigar smoker is a lot!

The "addiction" argument I can just about get my head around but don't agree with. A £50 allowance for the occasional cigar is outrageous. Like giving someone an allowance for being an occasional champagne drinker! Still, if you can get away with it why not have a punt!!

If your IVA has already been accepted, it will be difficult to justify that you now need a smoking allowance, and if it is still in the process of preparation this is an area which should have been discussed with you when they were initially working out the level of your disposable income.

Or an oyster allowance...yummy. I'm down on the coast this week and absolutely addicted to them. Luckily they're as cheap as chips straight out of the fish market!
