Fantastic news Chris!

I wish you all the best in the army and the remainder of your IVA.

Don't forget to post (when you can!) to let us know how both are going on.

I was a PTI for three years and never thought I was that evil compared to some, however, I recently attended a reunion and it was pointed out to me that I too was classed as the "beast master", those of you who served will remember what a "beasting" is, I had mine down to a fine art, best of luck Chris and take no notice of me, I'm sure they can't do the things we did nowadays [;)]

The words "PTI" and "not evil" cannot possibly be mentioned in the same sentence Beans! I have had many a beasting in my day! And when they introduced CFTs and expected women to be able to yomp at the same rate as men, carrying the same amount of weight, it just about finished me. I am all for equality - but can someone tell HMF that women are not as physically able as men - fact!!

Great news to hear that you have joined up Chris. I loved my time in the forces, and apart from beastly PTIs can honestly say it is the very best career ever.

Melanie, they must have realised your point as when I was serving the women didnt have to carry as much weight. Can't remember what the difference was.

Although we only had one female in the engineers at the time, serving with my squadron so weather it might have been our Officer commandings decision to let her carry less weight, I wouldnt know. But I cant see that to be likely!

I had the great honour of doing a one to one BFT with a female officer attached to our Regiment just before I left, it was one of my finest moments and one of her worse, I paced her at the male time and not the female time, it was her fastest ever BFT [:D] Pity she didn't see the funny side!!!!

The worst beasting I ever had was by a woman PTI Melanie, I was at Aldershot doing my PTI course and we were sharing a gym with the female course. I made the mistake of running across her class to get some equipment.

Me and another bloke were then beasted for a full 45 minutes in front of both classes, being a young, naieve, albeit very fit idiot, instead of feigning exhaustion, I tried to do the man thing and keep going. Needless to say after said 45 minutes, two other candidates were sent over to pick us up and drag us out of the gym.

We were then told to be ready for the stretcher race in two hours (your husband will know this one Mel, being an ex Para), I really proved how stupid men can be that day, and you think I was evil [}:)]
