Hi
One of the hardest parts of the IVA process for many is when they actually stop paying creditors for the first time.Having spent months if not years juggling finances to make sure everyone was paid it really is a strange and uncomfortabe feeling. You have to remember that you can't pay all your contracted payments, and the only way to do it would be to extend your debt even further and this would not be right.
It's important to get your finances and essential bills upto date prior to the IVA as once you are in it you will have very little slack

Thanks Ang & Andy. I was told yesterday that once I had done what I have today, I would feel more in control of my finances and I must say, that is true. If I hadn't got such a large conscience, I would have found it much easier, but I feel so guilty. What I have to remind myself though is that I am a very small fish in the very large creditors ocean and I suppose even my debts as large as they are, are small when you look at the whole lending picture. Thats what I tell myself anyway and it makes me feel better! Onwards and upwards! Kazzy x

Thanks for the support Barb. I feel much more positive today, funny though, I spend so much time at work, that having the day off has made me take stock a bit more and I have had a little time to myself to think about things without the stress of work going around in my head. Tomorrow, I will return to work, but without the pressure as I have got lots of things done today so I am pleased.

Drowning-mummy, I was getting worried about you as I haven't seen you on for a day or so. Hope all is ok with you, glad you are getting things sorted. Speak to Melanie or any of the other IP's who post on here and get your options clear in your head, then you too can move onwards and upwards.

My motto is right, do one fantastic thing today.... I have and I feel so much better for it. Rgrds Kazzy x

kazzy and drowning mummy!

you will both come out of this the other side!

drowning mummy - melanie and her team will give you honest advice and there will be a way forward for you!

like you say kazzy even if you only do one positive thing each day, you are moving forward.

you both should be proud for facing your problems and asking for help to overcome them!

me and hubby had debts of 160 thousand and there was a way forward for us! there will be for both of you too!

keep positive

love barb x

There really are Barb, lets hope that further down the line, I will have more experience to offer newcomers like me, sound (yet not expert) advice. This forum is a real lifeline for me and just imagine this journey without it, it doesn't bear thinking about does it? Kazzy x

Glad you are feeling better Kazzy!

Still not nice when you realise X creditor is usually paid on x date and they haven't been BUT at least you are addressing your problem.

Barb as usual you are wonderful and supportive!

Hi Kazzy

I'm glad you got your new account sorted out. I so know how you've been feeling with having to cancel your dd's etc. i'm cancelling all of mine tonight whilst i'm at work - i'm so nervous about doing it! We opened up our new account today so just need to get everything going out of there asap. I also have a conscience and feel so bad not paying my non-priority bills as also have never missed a payment. On the plus side we shouldn't receive any phone calls as we changed our phone number last month, but hadn't got round to telling any of our creditors. We just found out our mortgage was up for renewal in august but have managed to get a good rate and fixed for 5 years, so that's one less thing to worry about.
God know's where i'd be at the moment if i hadn't stumbled across this board, we certainly wouldn't be on the same path we're on now and would never have found Melanie's team - who've been great and very supportive!

Cath

Cath, its so great to hear that you are on the road to recovery as well. I couldn't believe what a mammoth task it was just cancelling and reinstating the dd's with another bank! Hopefully now, we will both be in control of our finances and when things are finalised with Melanie, we will know exactly where we are. Good luck and keep posting, Kazzy x

Oh Kazzy I am okay.
Tried emailing you personally but the service is down.
Still in the same predicament and waiting to see if Melanie will have us, but feeling ten millions times better just by speaking to Tina.
Is there any way we could talk privately? By no means do I want to eliminate all our support, but I would like to know more frm you as so far we seem so similar plus we have started at the same time........

Thanks Kazzy

I'm actually quite looking forward to having to stick to a budget etc without having to use the dreaded credit card to pay for food etc, although quite scary as there's no back ups now.
