Happy birthday Ladyh! I was the same as you - I was 32 until 1pm, when I grudgingly became 33!

yes I will be running for charity although I cant registor with one yet as the general ballot is still open and places havent yet been sorted out.

It will be a cancer based one although I am undecided yet. Breast cancer is a major thing in my family but other family members have been affected by other cancers so would like to run for one that covers them all. But then again the RLNI holds a place in my heart too.

Harry has done the marathon twice now and both times he injured either his knee or his ankles by tripping over the empty water bottles lying on the road,(although he did finish). Hes hoping to get another place next year to support me running (perhaps he could support the RNLI).

I used to enjoy running but then the kids came, along with an extra 5 stone in weight and I havent looked back since!!!

If I was doing the marathon (and if I ever come on here and say that I am please feel free to shoot me!) I would do it for Cancer Research UK and the Multiple Sclerosis Society as my dad had cancer and MS.

Hi

Just start gradually and build it up. Make sure you wear good trainers (these do not have to be expensive)to help your feet function properly. They should bend at the ist toe joint and not easily squeezed together medially and laterally at the heel. Your bones are constantly remodelling according to the stresses put on them on a daily basis if you go for it too quickly you risk a stress fracture or worse.

Good luck, I wish you all the best with this.

Thanks Lily. I'm definitely going to take it slowly. When I've tried running in the past (not very often!) I've gone out to run as far and as fast as I can and given up when I couldn't get very far! The training programme I'm going to follow seems quite good - train 3 times a week and start of with brisk walking and then gradually introce a few minutes jogging and build up each time.

Good luck Louisa, and well done for doing the 10k last year.

Training has started! I went out and did the first session on the training plan, a 20 minute power walk. The strange thing is I really enjoyed it, although my legs are starting to ache a bit now!

I found my old MP3 player and power walked along the tow path listening to some cheesy 80s music - a nice way to spend 20 minutes!

Skippy - be careful on that tow-path, especially if you are alone and listening to music. I think you should take Dave with you!

Dave had already been for a run before I got in!

I go straight from work and the tow path is really busy at that time and there are a lot of houses so I felt quite safe. If it had been quiet I was going to take the headphones out!

Well I've been out 3 times in the last week so that's the first week of the training plan over! I'm still power walking but I'm feeling a bit fitter, although today was hard - I feel like I'm getting a cold and it was really busy by the river.

I managed to reach week seven of the 12 week training plan and am now stuck at that. Keep having to repeat that week as I keep missing sessions.
