Natwest will say no as they don't allow an undischarged bankrupt to hold an account.

Which Co-op account did you apply for, and how did you apply for it? The Cashminder is the only account that they will offer you, and you need to apply for this either in a branch or on the phone - if you have applied online you have applied for one of their standard current accounts.

Last question - are you on the electoral register at your current address? This is the only reason I can think of that they refused you.

Being registered at your address is the only way co op can know you are who you say you are and that you live where you say you do,otherwise the account could be used for illegal purposes. May be worth getting on electoral role and then giving Co op another go,if they refuse again ask them why.

Co OP use Experian to look you up but not credit check. The details must match. The electorate details will be on Experian's files.

The Co-op if they don't see the match will just decline the account....try Alliance and Licester

I don't think A & L will offer a bank account to an undischarged bankrupt?

I would get yourselves on the electoral register and then go back to the Co-op and re-apply.

Good luck x

Have you thought about getting one of the pre paid credit cards, they dont run credit checks and anyone can apply and I am sure you can have wages paid into them if you like, its not the best but may save you the drive and you can change to a bank account when you get one opened.

There is always thinkbanking. I know a lot on here have not been happy as they do charge for the account (managed account) but it can be opened over the phone in a matter of minutes, all are accepted as the account was designed for those with these probs. I still have to say the account works really well for us and i still have had no problems whatsoever with it.
A last resort at least if all others fail.

Why dont you open a building society account for the time being for your wages to be paid into? You wont get a cash card but if you open one that is in your town then you wont have to travel 3 1/2 hours to get his wages.

You can have your wages paid into a building society no problems and this will give you close access to your money until you can find a basic bank account that you are allowed to open
