Oh Hell, just when thing seem to go so right how can they go so wrong. I have had a Virgin Media account for 3 years now and in the last two months have just found that the account is getting more and more astronomical by the month and we have struggled to pay it - so we decided to end the contract. The latest bill was £280. I wrote to them and explained the reason for discontinuing the contract and that we will need to pay this account off as we are in dire financial straights. I received no acknowledgement of my letter but instead received a default letter threatening court action. What to do???

HELP!![:I]

PS: just read a very nasty and upsetting post concerning Mel - I have to say Mel and all the others "pro's" have been wonderful with their advice and help and I would have committed suicide by now if it wasn't for them. So to the person who ranted - get a life hon. These people are here to help and they do a wonderful job.

Don't worry SharonOR about the posting.. we well understand that sometimes people get very stressed out and say things under the heat of the moment.. the thread has been now been archived.... water under the bridge [:)]

If you don't mind me asking what are you getting for £280 a month?!?!? That's appalling! It might be a silly question, but have you gone through each bill and checked it's correct, as they are known for making mistakes with billings. I would try calling them. They will probably put you through to the retention department who will try and keep you, but if you really want to disconnect stick to your guns. If you don't have any joy, send another letter recorded delivery enclosing a copy of the first one.

Don't worry girls - I've got great big shoulders and don't really get too phased by the occasional adverse comment!

Turning to your query Sharon, it might be worth you talking to the customer service dept and letting them know you are thinking of exiting the agreement. A few forum posters noted recently that if you do this sometimes they bend over backwards to try and keep you on board, and then the special deals start being offered. Worth a try!

Thanks folks - tried to speak to the person who wrote me the letter but he was conveniently unavailable and they will get someone to ring me back. We have also been threatened with sending the bailiffs in. God help them if they do this.... We have been charged for Broadband, telephone and tv. I am sorting through the accounts now and see that we have really huge bills for telephone and been charged for extra box which we no longer have. HMMMM!!!
