I am so annoyed with Capital One!

I had a credit card with them years ago and it was always paid in full. Last week I checked my Experian credit file and and it showed that, although the account is settled, I was 6 payments late. I checked Equifax and Callcredit and they both show as settled with no late payments.

Equifax contacted Capital One on my behalf but they have refused to amend the entry as they say they are right. I know they're wrong but there's nothing I can do as I don't have any proof - I don't have statements going that far back.

It's so annoying that there's nothing I can do! The only good thing is it's due to drop off my credit file 2 weeks after my BR so it shouldn't affect me but it's the principle!

Ask them to send you copies of all of your statements. If they cannot provide the proof, and you make a complaint to the FOS, I doubt they will have a leg to stand on.

Skippy, how many years ago. As Mel says, ask them to send you statement copies and PROVE you missed payments. If they cannot your complaint to FOS will be upheld.

However, if this debt is 6+ years old it should have just fallen off your credit rating automatically.

It's showing as settled on 15th April 2007. I've been thinking about this and because it's due to drop off in April I'll probably leave it as I don't want to open a can of worms and cause problems with the other CRAs!

It's annoying though!

Probably best letting sleeping dogs lie skippy. But on 16th April, if its still there, give 'em both barrels for the annoyance the've caused you. You'll soon be nice and cleeeeeeeean. Well done.

Hi

Proabaly best to let it just fall off

The last thing you want Skippy is a notice of correction that sits on your credit file after April

I agree Andy. If it was any longer I'd do something on principle but I don't want to create any more problems!

Hi Skippy,

Capital One also gave me problems, and would not change the default date on my credit report stating "They were right, end of". As it happens, the default was only 6 days after the bankruptcy but as you say it's the principle!

Long time no speak Wen - how are things with you?

Capital One are a complete pain in the backside! I've got a problem with Littlewoods as well at the moment as, according to Experian, they defaulted me in July 2007 rather than March.

Hi Skippy..

We are well thank you.. nearly 5 years since we went BR, unbelievable how quickly it's gone! Going to update our blog soon, but things are good - after the knightmare we went through pre-BR, it's certainly turned to be the best decision we could have made at the time.

How are you, you must be clear of the 6 years now?

Glad things are going well for you both - it's good to hear from you!

My 6 years is up on 29th March - I have to say it's now dragging a bit as I only have one default and the BR to go now. Oh and stupid Capital One of course!

I look forward to reading your updates!

It might only be Capital One now but I've had a few battles with other creditors!
