Having had a simi experience with a Renault ( turbo blow up ) I was told to ALWAYS do the following:

When you stop the car and turn it off, ALWAYS give the engine 30 secs for the turbo to cool down.
What it is that the turbo glows red/white hot when in use and its got minute oil ways which keep the turbo cool and lubricated, by turning the engine off straight away does not give the turbo chance to cool down sufficiently and the oil bubbles up and eventually clogs the oil ways, which in turn eventually causes the turbo to clam up and blow.
It doesn't matter what oil you use it will happen and I was told also to change the oil every 6k miles.
It can be embarrassing sitting on a petrol station forecourt for 30secs but thats a small price to pay as opposed to 800 quid as what mine cost to replace the turbo thru the dealer.

What part do you need exactly? My OH gets very favourable rates (up to 75% off) from PartCo and the local scrappies as he used to buy and sell used cars. I could see if he could price it up for you?

I will show him the thread later, see what he thinks. He is a genius with cars. He saved us £350 on what the garage said we would need to pay out to fix our new car (old one caught fire and burnt to the ground so I totally sympathise with your predicament) using his knowledge and technical know how - even the garage was impressed!
Completion Certificate received September 2012.

case manager emailed 1st thing to say no probs to payment break. Add on at the end or try to make extra payments during remaining 29 months.
Thanks AR but had to order new part as no scrappies had turbo or wanted £500 fora reconditioned one! At least I get a years guarentee this way!

What a complete swine, car blowing up. Its just one of them isnt it? Cant really skirt round that one. My dad was good at doing new engines. I really hope you get it sorted and soon.

Its really good news about the payment break.

Good luck.

Oh PD - thats not good news!

I take it you still have to pay the mechanic for the work he's done?

You have to decide if the car is worth it or look at your options for getting another car.

The mechanic's bill to date is £900(650 plus vat for a turbo). Obviously he cannot return the turbo but could sell it 2nd hand/nearly new. He is going to price up another engine and I have told him that £1600 total is all I can afford. He is also going to talk to a few people he knows to see if they would buy the car as it is with a view to doing it up for a little profit so if I could get 500-600 back and then I am only hah ONLY about £400 down.

One is not amused!!!(renault got a nasty email earlier today and I await their reply!!).

Just an update and a gripe at renault UK.

There customer care team expect me to pay to have my car moved from an indpendant garage to a renault garage at my expense then pay for thier technicians to tell me what my mechanic has told me and then they may or may not offer a part payment towards repair. I said nope,I am not throwing my money away and renault will never see another penny of my money and I shall make sure that everyone knows what I think of them!!

They are denying the fact that the DCI engine has any problems(just google renault dci turbo and see what comes up!!),and he also denied that if a car was under 5 years old and less than 90000 miles they would fund the whole cost of repair(mine is 6 years old but way under that mileage).

Lied to far too often by them and they are like slippery eels trying to shift responsibility onto my mechanic blaming him for not servicing the car right.

Total shower of utter barstewards!!!
