Hi, i am sure that this has been addressed before but I can not find any relevant threads.

My car insurance is up for renewal and am going to be changing provider as i can get it cheaper somewhere else. Obviously I want to continue to pay monthly but am a little worried as it is termed as credit.

We have only been in our IVA for 2 months and want to make sure I do everything right.

Is it ok to get car insurance on a pay monthly scheme/

It might be better to stick with your current provider as they may not credit check you again if you have paid in instalments before. It is fine to pay your insurance in this manner.

It does annoy me that insurance companies do a credit check. I know that monthly instalmenst is credit, but they do it even if you pay upfront.

I agree that you probably should stay with your current provider, but I would probably still hunt round in case you can get a better deal. You never know

Thanks for your replies,

I have just had my renewal through and even though I have not claimed it has gone up £5 per month. after looking round I can reduce my current amount by £10.

I just dont know what to do now as am worried about being refused.

If you get refused by any new companies, you still have you renewal to fall back on, and if push comes to shove, you will just have to go with them.

If you try online for a new company it's not as embarrasing as speaking on the phone.

Thanks,

I am just a bit embarassed when it comes to money and telling people, you are right though doing it online is easier to bear than in person.

I will give it a go and let you know how I get on.

Kirsty, I am the same as you, but at least you can be a bit more anonymous on the computer. I never put my phone number down either. Usually a 0100000000 (or thereabouts!) surfices.

Yes I do too, I never give out my phone number and usually use an email account that I rarely look at.

I am hoping that the self critism of my debts will reduce as I continue to survive on my IVA.

Hi
I have just been reading this thread. I never realised car insurance companies do credit checks!

I have just had my renewel through which is £560 a year. I did some quotes on the internet and I can get my insurance from other providers for £280 a year.

I really want to change as this is a big saving, but if they all do credit checks I will have no chance as I want to pay monthly.

I am the same - upset with myself that I let things get so bad. I hate it when people at work talk about stuff they have bought and holidays they are going on. I used to be like that and realise that it is my own fault that I am in this situation but it doesn't help and I keep having to think up excuses for why I am not going away for a second year.

Hi Sharon,

That is what I have just learnt, it seems that as we are trying to get our debts under control and pay as much as we can to them we have to pay a premium on normal expenses.

I am going to try for the quote online as suggested and with fingers crossed hope for the best.

Good luck to you too.

They do unrecorded searches so it never shows up on your credit report if anyone else does a check.

Give it a try, they can only say no. If they say yes, you've saved pounds,

I never thought twice about credit checks for car insurance, quote came through which had gone up, so I shopped around on the internet and got a better price. New company sent documnets through with monthly payment plan, doesn't seem to be any problems. Switched from Tesco to Churchill.

I am with Tesco and thinking of swaping to shelias wheels, just read their credit agreement and it mentions bankrupcy not iva so am going to give it a go, only problem is that I have to pay two months as a deposit and if they decide that I cant pay installments with them am worried about getting the money back.

The way I look at it is that although it is a credit agreement, if you don't make a payment they cancel your insurance so you are the only one who loses out - not them.
