Hi guys
hope all is well with everyone..i have a biiig problem
im sooo stressed out, my car needed a new thermost due to the snow and bad weather b*****ing it up. But while at the mechanics, who are family friends, they said the car needs a new clutch and fan belt as well as a new thermostat. im looking at £500+. Ive only a few months back paid £220 on MOT and the car is only worth £1300 i bought it last year. And ive had to replace 3 tyres. Does anyone have any advice on what i could do? is it worth fixing up the car? Buying another cheap run around isnt going to solve problem as it will only face more problems.
Is there any options for us to buy a car on finance? Im soo stressed the thought of spendin £500 on a junk heap is really getting me down!
Sorry can't offer you advice - if only it had been last week, I could have sold you my godmothers car for £750 - a perfect buy - 11yr old hyundai accent with 36ooo miles on it - she passed away at xmas and it was in incredible condition for a 11 yr old car....sold on ebay immediately and allmoney now been given to solicitor for the esate ! Good luck

thanks luluj! thats very kind of you..! Im just worried to get another runaround...
Mr Bluesky, its an S Reg Ford Puma. Has about 85000 miles on the clock. But their clutches are very expensive. And then there is the fan belt and thermostat.
The reason i asked about the finance is becasue of the goverment scarappage scheme. I mean £2000 towards a new car is decent especially as mine is probably worth about £300 with the problems it has. I looked at the Citroen C1 which has fantastic reviews, and drove one as a company car in an old job. 64mpg i used about £30.00 petrol a month. They are not expensive to buy, probably about £6000 including the scapaage scheme. All the benefits for example, 3yrs warrannty, no MOT for 3 years, great fuel consumption. Im spend £70-£80 on fuel a month, insurance would be much cheaper. Do these companies that run IVAs not consider this, or would they rather we fork out huge sums of money which would cost moraless the value of the car?
Im meant to b carrying out the repairs on wednesday and the stress of it is doing my head in! [V]
Speak with your IP and ask them whether they would permit you to get a new car via a lease hire scheme - Ducton's are meant to be open to be on IVA's and they are advertised on here widely by those that have used them - you will need the permission of your IP though.

I would definitely talk to your IP about your car situation and hope it can be resolved.
I've not personally had car problems, only boiler problems and took a payment break to cover those, I now pay a little extra each month to cover the arrears on my IVA.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
im hoping there is a way around this, i mean, if u weigh out the benefits of new car vs old car, surely it would make sense to allow me to buy a new car? if the payments are reasonable and my insurance and petrol are cheaper i can put that money towards the car payments right..
i guess i will see what the IP says.... [xx(]
hi we had problems with our old car r reg renault and all payplan would allow was for us to buy another old car which fingers crossed is fine at the moment
Hi all, has anyone got any further news on this post, my car is not well ahhh.... and keeping it going is like throwing money down the drain. Surley it makes sense that if you get a newer car the running costs will reduce.
Thanks
I think the idea of buying a new car is a good one particularly since the efficiency savings would fund the costs. The main problem is obtaining finance while in an IVA even if your IP sanctioned it. If you have a family memebr or friend who would be prepared to buy the car in their name and you were to make the payments your IP may give permission.
You need to speak to your IP about being able to get a new car.
