Cars are a nightmare, i have a 53 plate modeo - bought it nearly 2 years ago for £1500, since then i've spent £1000 on it - new suspension front and back, 2 new tyres, new battery. Still need to put it in now for the rear sub frame to be replaced butits going to cost around £300 - need other 2 tyres replacing! back reverse lights don't work - its full of condensation on back windscreen, some kind of wheel bearing needs looked at! It's just never ending! I only use the car once a week now for shopping as I've started walking to work every day which is around a 3 mile roundtrip! I have thought of getting rid but my parents and partners parents are all up in Glasgow and getting on - so really need it incase we have to make a trip!
Hope you find a solution - but i feel your pain!
Susie

@ dunkynuts - walking home with the weekly shop definitely helps with bingo wings!

@ susieq - I have an 02 Ka and I have been told that Fords reach a certain point and just 'fall apart'. I've been lucky so far but I'm sure all the rattles will turn into something nasty soon. I'm just riding my luck at the moment!

It'll never help with my bingo wings!!! Only surgery will do that!!

Must admit that if I lived that close to work, unless the weather was bad, I'd walk.

Before I moved to my current location (not easily accessible via public transport) I used to walk two miles to my local train station every day. I actually miss that walk!!

I am seriously considering getting rid of the car and getting a recumbant trike (harder to fall off!). Get main shop delivered, small shop around corner for top ups.

Might get a bit windy around the Trossach's in the winter though!

[:D][:D]

Can't give mine up as it's a 24 mile round trip involving unlit roads, shift worker and public transport would take me forever!!

Can't even car share as nobody I work with either lives near me or works the same shifts!

Dunkynuts if your car has given up the ghost check out "Gumtree". Look out for something small with 12 months MOT & 6 months tax. I know in my area (North East) theres bargains galore at the moment.

Suzieq I feel your pain with your 53 Mondeo....mines a Y reg but considering the parts I've had to change its realistically only a few years old lol. MOT is due next month along with the tax on mine so really not looking forward to april, especially as I had to put new rear discs & pads on it last week and service it the month before.

By the way I only buy "part-worn" tyres for mine which helps keep costs down and as I "dont drive it like its been stolen", for £20 a corner they are adequate for purpose.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

Good luck Dunkynuts, I don't envy you not having a car! I wouldn't be able to manage without mine so I'm hoping that I don't have too mnay problems until my credit file is clear and I can replace it!

I have to say I wouldn't want to have part worn tyres on it though as I do drive on the motorway and it would worry me.

I wouldn't use part worn either - we've always had brand new tyres. I don't drive on the motorway now but I used to and I'd be worried to death.

I have used part worn as well, no problem, more than adequate for the mileage i do, bl**dy car spends more time parked at work than it does on the road anyway.
