EVENING ALL, IT LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO NEED TO OPEN A NEW BANK ACCOUNT, AND FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN ON THE FORUM, THE CO-OP CASHMINDER SEEMS TO BE THE ONE PEOPLE ARE OPTING FOR. DO THE CO-OP RUN A CREDIT CHECK ON YOU BEFORE YOU CAN OPEN AN ACCOUNT, AND DO THEY ASK ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING YOU'RE CREDIT STATUS, I'M IN THE EARLY STAGES OF APPLYING FOR MY IVA AND OBVIOUSLY MY CREDIT STATUS IS PRETTY GRIM, I'VE JUST SWAPPED FROM LTSB TO HSBC, BUT HAVE READ THAT HSBC WILL CLOSE MY ACCOUNT ONCE THEY SEE THAT I'M IN AN IVA, ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED THANX

You shouldn't have a problem opening a Cashminder account. The account is designed for people with poor credit - I'm bankrupt and I didn't have a problem opening one. You have to open the account either on the phone or in a branch, and I think they check the electoral roll, but not your credit rating.

Co-op Cashminder is a good account and there usually no issues in opening provided you have good ID. Also Barclays cashcard account is good as they have wider branch representation.

All the best alan

Has anyone had any experience with the Yorkshire Bank whilst in an IVA ?

I'm with Natwest, they do a basic bank account called Step. I've not had any problems with them.

i opened a cashminder in dec 2007 before my iva was approved . I applied over the phone and received electron card 7 days later. Everytime you need customer services they are fab. I have also last mth opened a saving account no problems and i havent come across anywhere yet that does not take my electron card.

I popped in to the local Co-Op bank and the chap in there was very good and understanding of my situation. You can use LINK machines with the electron card and whilst some online places don't accept them, many do so if you shop online as well, all is not lost.

That's strange - SMILE wouldn't let me open one with them when I asked - they were my first port of call.

it maybe as we have not entered our IVA as yet, still in proposal stage.. we hadn't missed any payments either. when we applied online nothing was asked though re credit circumstances
