On a similar vein, whilst i'm on holiday this week i took the opportunity to clear our attic of 30 years of accumulated carp today with the help of mrs torch.
Filthy dirty and full of cobwebs.

But she's good with the kids............
Doesn't your attic smell really fishy?

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.

We had both cavity wall and loft insulation done last year and we both earn good money - we had to pay £250 for the lot to be done....well worth it and already we have noticed the difference - Nationwide company with the same name as a well branded hoover that was the first bagless hoover I beleive - see a little triva instead of naming the company !

Ours cost nothing as hubby was on incapacity benefit at the time otherwise there was no way we could have afforded it.

Can't remember who did ours.

I'm hoping to get it all done for free as that is what they're advertising. If you're in receipt of certain qualifying benefits then you are entitled to £200 cashback too! crazy...no benefits but I will say yes please if they offer me free loft insulation. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Never got the cashback - it's good if you can get it done for free though.

Just had the surveyor round. There's no insulation in my wall cavities what so ever so I can have that and the loft done for free. Hope I see a big difference to my bills. I'm so chuffed :-D

Tomorrow at 1pm we've got a survey booked, I did ask if I don't qualify for free do I have to pay for the survey but I've been assured it's non-chargeable. They are also aware I am not over 70 and not in receipt of any qualifying benefits so I'll update tomorrow.

I know I can't have cavity wall due to the age of the house having solid walls.

We had a surveyor round yesterday, putting 20cm of insulation in the loft, plus insulation on top of loft hatch with draught proofing all round the opening, no cavity wall as the house was built with it. No charge, this is because our daughter and her 2 children are currently living with us and she is in receipt of child benefit and tax credits, they arput stalling it on the 30th August and she's moving out on the 31st!! No rules about how long she has to stay here though so all should be ok - I hope x

I don't think there is any stipulation - once it's done they come round to inspect it to make sure it's ok and that's it - you don't hear anything else.

was only talking to my g/f last night about this, after some one called at her house.
I could not belive it would be done for free and said I would look into it for her. After reading post on here will get it done, before I move in with her.
IVA now over with and it was worth it.
now starting my life again,

Yes, you should definitely go for it. All these government subsidies are due for a shake up at the end of the year - ie they might stay or they might not. Go for it now, whilst you still definitely can!

There is however one big barrier to insulation, which is the need to clear the loft of belongings, and then finding somewhere to put your stuff afterwards. It's a major reason why lots of people don't insulate their lofts.

However, there is a brand new invention, from a company supported by the Carbon Trust, which I’ve seen that solves this – a raised loft flooring system called StoreFloor. See www.loftzone.co.uk for details.
It isn't subsidised by the Government but it allows you to keep your storage space. [:)]
