I endorse optimist12's sentiments. I have an IVA with CCCS VA and they've been terrific. I offered to give up Sky and my contract mobile so that I could make as large a payment as possible and they advised me to keep both. They also rejected modifications too so that e.g. I can continue to pay into my pension.

When submitting my expenditure for my IVA proposal last year it was effectively rearranged to fit CCCS guidlines, unfortunately everything has gone up in price this year, well everything bar the CCCS guidlines! As a couple we are allowed £30 a month for doctors, dentists and opticians. That wasn't realistic last year, doesn't even cover my opticians costs, now my husband needs glasses due to eye injuries. So adding up 2 opticians bills, medical costs he needs regular eye drops, plus the 2 £195 NHS dental bills this year, £30 is a joke. How can CCCS just pick a figure of £30 a month and say thats all your allowed. Its not as if these are optional luxury expenses.

To add my two pennorth, I would echo Melanies viewpoint re the fact that you can't really knock the CCCS but it is also true that the guidelines that we currently work with seem to have no real reflection on todays cost of living.

However, it is also important for anyone considering an IVA that before you jump in, so to speak, you must make sure that all your expenses are adequately covered. Whilst the guidelines ARE tight, at the end of the day they are still only a guide. If you have a legitimate expense, it is necessary and provable then it can be included.

To give you an example, I recently put a proposal forward with £150 extra per month for laundry and cleaning products for a client with a medical condition that demanded that money needed to be spent.

The guideline that drives me madder than any other is the relative pittance we are recommended to allow against car maintenance. I need 2 new tyres for the front of my car, cheapest quote is £55 each, without balancing and tracking, right up to £120 each. If I get the quality ones, which I obviously should, then if I were on an IVA that is my years allowance gone plus 4 months from next year!! That is without the cost of the MOT, a regular service etc so it is certainly time, in my opinion, to review these things to fall in line with todays cost of living.

Regards.

I second that. Both Steve and Jackie Westerman (their IP) made us feel extremely welcome, and it was enlightening to see just how much common ground there is between the way they put forward IVAs and how it is done in my own practice.

And so far as the guidelines are concerned, both of them made it very clear that they are guidelines only, and it was not intended for creditors to insist on strict compliance within the margins.

Overall an extremely useful day, providing Andy and I with a much better understanding of how this organisation operates and interacts with creditors. Many thanks to Steve and Jackie for their time and in inviting us up to their offices in Leeds.

Great to read the positive feedback re CCCS on Andy's blog. I have said it before - and I will say it again - I will always owe CCCS a great debt of gratitude. They put me on the right track and set out my options so well - and all for £0 - 00p.

Between them and my IVA Company I have a lot to be thankful for.

Look forward to watching the interview.
