True
but a bank shouldnt offer a "new" card which is to make it "better" for the customer, when its just an embosed visa electron card and not the debit card.

Thats not very ethical too me

Has anyone else had a Visa debit card from the Co-op yet? If so, are the first 4 numbers 4508?

As long as it is accepted in shops, which it appears to be (or so I've read on other forums) then that's ok.

I shall be applying for a new account with them soon I think.

Their online banking is very simple to use for setting up and cancelling DD's,SO's etc. PAying cash or cheque in is easy, you never have to go near a branch and its free. All good stuff.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.

Jan, the card is accepted in shops and I've used it in shops where they haven't had the Electron sign.

I can't remember any other complaints about the Co-op, and unless you've got spare money each month to pay for a 'managed' account I'd recommend it anyone.

Skippy - why could you not have a co-op savings account - that can't be od? I asked about one on the phone and was told no problem.

I've opened an account with Yorkshire Building Society with no problems - it's probably better as I can't tranfer the money back and forward instantly so it might stay longer in my account!

I have nothing but praise or the co-op. But I do have a current account.

The internet banking is superb and on the odd occasion i ring the call centre the help is excellent. I use my local post office for paying cheques in. Never been to a branch in the 6 months i banked with them.

A refreshing change from the Natwest, who were sell, sell, sell...
50 months down 22 to go!
