I have a bread machine, and I worked out for an 2lb unsliced white loaf, I am paying approx 30p for the ingredients (OK I only use Asda cheapest bread flour), add in another 10p for electricity etc so I am getting a unsliced loaf for 40p so yes it is a lot cheaper,
The only downside is that you tend to eat more bread mainly because you cut it thicker and that it sends such a nice smell around the house you cant wait to try it warm from the breadmaker. I only have one of the cheapest bread makers and it does jam, cakes etc so a good investment.
Another good buy is a slow cooker as you can use cheaper cuts of meat etc. Love my slow cooker , I get loads of recipes on the internet dont bother buying fancy books.

We have a breadmaker, which is great -- the bread tastes so much better than shop bought ( and we use budget ingredients). However, I did add an electric slicer to my Christmas wants list ( and got one) which makes the loaves go a bit further (and sandwiches easier to eat in front of people !!!).

We've got a bread maker and I haven't found I eat more bread. I have one slice instead of two and I think it's more filling as it's not full of the rubbish that's in shop bought bread. One slice of bread and 2 eggs makes a lovely lunchtime sandwich!

We do have shop.bought but is a local independent bakery. Not cheap but not full of rubbish either and its not mass produced. We have granary as it's much tastier than white.

Fresh bread is a drug for me! I can often be found lurking in the supermarket bakery section drooling over a tiger loaf! Beans on a jacket potato is one of my favourite cheapies that hasn't been mentioned so far...it goes without saying that casseroles etc are delicious. I received a slow cooker for Christmas but haven't tried it yet...I can't wait to get a pheasant and a pint of cider in it though! Scrambled eggs heavily diluted with milk and topped up with cheese is also quite scrummy. I'm a girl living on my own though...not sure if men can survive on beans and eggs. I know my boyfriend is unimpressed with such suggestions LOL x

ooh my downfall is bread and I could eat it with every meal. Now I'm on a diet, I eat only the crust of the loaf (that's my favourite) so no crust there = no bread!

I long for a new loaf to be opened sometimes! x

House rules...no bread and no cheese! I'm not to be trusted with either. I can eat a family block of cheese in the time it makes to boil a kettle LOL...seriously I have!
