I have just had a phone call when nobody spoke when I answered I just hung up. They rang me back and hung up when I answered when I checked it was a creditors number. If they speak when you answer they might get a response.

Never heard of that one before. Maybe there was something wrong with the line where you can't hear them but they can hear you?

hi lesley,i must admit that has happened to me in the past.I think the company who were a complete night mare was hfc,it got to the stage that i let all calls go to answerfone,as you can only explain the same thing so many times, and i hated the attitude of some of the companys. So when the phone rang it went to answerfone and this man says come on pick up we no you are there,i couldnt believe it he kept saying this for the duration of my answer fone message.I think some of them forget we are adults not naughty little children, and we feel bad enough about the situation without them deliberatley trying to intimmedate us.Hope next time if they ring they have the decencey to answeryou

i too must admit that i had many a call where you knew someone was there and they just wouldn;t speak, i use to let my 4 yr old daughter answer in the end and she will talk to fresh air, my way of thinking was it was costing them to sit there and pretend they weren't there and let my daughter sing nursery rhymes to them, after that i just left my printer on which goes to fax after 5 rings and they would just get the piercing fax noise down their ears.

i have also been informed that they ring many debtors at the same time and it all depends on who answers first who they speak to and thats why there is a silence at the other end as someone has answered before you, and then once you answer it disconnects my worst creditor was the halifax who used an automated system which rang on the half hour every hour from 8 til 8 and drove me crazy with a voice recording this call is for blah blah blah please press 2 if that is you.

I think Halifax is fast becoming the world's least favorite creditor. They've just written to my partner telling her they have reduced her credit limit (for no known reason) and they were one of the few of my creditors who tried to CCJ me.

Lol, they have been my least favourite bank for years. When I got divorced I had been with them 14 years, never been overdrawn, never missed a payment for anything. of the three loans I was taking over the largest amount was with my bank. I did not wait till I missed a payment, went to see them about consolidation straight away and they would not lend me the extra 4k because I had only just got divorced and they would have to assess what impact that had on my credit rating. As they say at NatWest, account - closed, bank switched.

Hi Lesley

I had one creditor who made these kind of calls , sometimes they would not speak at other times they would ask your date of birth and then just put the phone down. In the end I rang their customer services and said they were harassing me and that it was unecessary and was causing distress and that I was sure it was illegal she said I can assure you we are doing nothing illegal I said I beg to differ if you read the tellecommunications act. Everytime they rang me I rang them to politely complain, after a few times the calls stopped, they obviously didnt like me doing the same to them.

Take no notice, if they dont talk put the phone down or better still ring them back and ask them what they wanted.

All the best

Ang

I'm a great believer in people not wasting their time indulging their creditor's nuisance phone calls.
