It depends on how your income & expenditure has been calculated. Some IPs use a large food allowance and do not itemise smaller expenditure. As a guide food can be calculated at £450 for your family and £60 for clothing.

We are allowed £60 a month to clothe 2 adults & 3 children.
It's a farce but what can you do ?

I always think it is a farce that creditors expect such low amounts to be spent on a growing family. If they applied such guidelines to whether they authorise the clothes purchases that people make on their credit and store cards then it is a safe bet that thousands of people would not now need my or anyone elses advice.

ours is £110 for the 4 of us..it seems each thing is worked out individually andsome things considered and some not. I said I had £60 sky and someone else said this was high. It includes my phone and broadband though? Caraf...£400 for food appears low though? Cat

We are a family of 6 and our clothing budget was set at £80 and food was £600. Like abc said it looks like we had a high food budget but we never had any smaller separate allowances like contingency, school dinners or a separate toiletries budget etc.

Hi Cat1
Yes I am struggling a little with the 400 per month as this has to include toiletries as well, and with 2 teenage girls, you can go into boots and spend 30 quid on everyday things !! But I am managing at the moment. My husband just had a 3.5% increase on his wage which is going into food and also I am expecting a cut in interest rates today and hopefully the mortgage with go down too !!

Hi Hallway
They look like more realistic figures.
We are a family of 4 (2 teenagers) and we get 400 for food 80 for clothes and nothing for toiletries. which is hard when you have 2 teenage girls.
Which company are you with ?
All these figures seem to vary such a lot you would have thought the expenditure sheet should be the same which IP you are with

Hi we have £550 food (2 adults 3 children aged 12,10,8)clothing £125,contingency £100.Every bodies varies, ours is quite generous really.Clearstart set our petrol allowance too low to start with ,after recieving our proposals we changed it but they did drop something in our budget to make up for the increase. They also asked us to make some saving on the budget sheet where we could so that they could put the best offer forward to our creditors. Our landline/internet/sky is set at £60and we have £40 for two mobiles.
