Hi everyone, thanks for all the great information on this, however my job is sort of safe! The new job offer came to me and the other girl who was being offered it this afternoon. She has chosen not to accept it, so I have first refusal now [:D] Some of the terms are negotiable, so now I have a different question!
Would I be able to ask for a clothing allowance and drop the offered salary?

Thanks guys for all of your wonderful advice, I hope everyone is doing ok [:X]

Nyu xx

Hi - well thats great news that your job is safe. Well done you!

If the contract and its terms are negotiable, I would seriously think of what terms could be beneficial to you and put these to your employer.

All too often employees accept what is on the table without trying to get a different ( not necessarily better deal). If clothing allowance is important to you, then go for it. I always encourage employees to try and negotiate for holiday entitlement that suits their lifestyle, rather than accepting the standard entitlement.

You have nothing to lose so be confident and go for it ....and good luck..... xx

Clothing is the one thing I have missed more than anything during my IVA.

I put down £30 per month as an allowance, but that mostly goes on pants, socks, and the occasional t shirt!

I had to take a payment break a year or so ago to buy new shirts, shoes and two suits for work, but these are now starting to look worn, and it's this more than anything that makes me realise I'm in an IVA, even more so than not having a holiday.

So glad your job is safe Nyu.

I've not bothered about clothing - it's either uniform at work or jeans and T shirt at home. Rarely go out, so don't even need any decent stuff really.

Even the majority of clothes I took on holiday this year were either a few years old or given to me by a friend who has put weight on and her smaller clothes don't fit her.

I miss being able to buy new clothes - even though I have a clothing allowance I end up using it for other things as I'm so broke!

Julie, I wish I could negotiate more holiday - we get 22 days and it really isn't enough! We did try to get it increased, but as I work for an American company they think 22 days is more than enough!

In my opinion I get too many holidays, I know I shouldn't moan but I get easily bored.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I get a lot of holiday, plus bank holidays, and I never get bored!

I walk the dogs, spend most of my time on here and read a lot. I'm quite happy and wish I had more time off!

Once I got over the pain at the beginning of the year, I loved being off work.

Roll on retirement![:)]

You can never have too much holiday! Another 3 days would be enough, I'm not being greedy!

I'm greedy! Even if I work a Bank Holiday now I don't do it for pay, but for time off. I wouldn't have to pay anything across to my IVA as it's less than 10% of my earnings, but I prefer the time.

Christmas will be good as I am working Boxing Day, so will get a day off for that, and the Monday, which is a Bank Holiday and I will get two days for that and New Years Day is my day off so another day for that!

Brilliant!

Skippy depending on how many days you work, you may be legally entitled to more. Anyone working 5 days a week is entilted to 28 days holidays a year ( that can include Bank holidays).

I could never have too many days holidays.......pity I have to work at all [:D]

We are very lucky. I get 34 days holiday, plus bank holidays. I work a couple of Saturdays and either get the following Monday or Friday off. If I have to go into work on either of those days, I get that day back. If it is very short notice I get payment and the day off, and if that rest day falls on a bank holiday I get a day off back for that as well.

The police are very generous with their holiday allocation once you've been there a few years.

Probably 2012, if Surrey ever recruit again! There are going to be some big budget cuts around here and it sounds as though there will be cuts in police numbers.

I did think of applying to be a special constable in a couple of years in the hope that I can get a foot in the door that way, and also decide if it's for me!
