Hi all
Can any of you give me more info on the cash minder a/c. I currently have HSBC basic a/c, but could really do with a "debit" type card which HSBC don't offer with this type of a/c (combined with me being in an IVA!!) Does the cashminder offer a debit card, or is it purely a cash withdrawal card, or would we be best to go for a Prepayment card. If so which one can anyone recommend. Lots of Questions I know, but thanks in anticipation guys.

Sorry can't answer your question but glad to 'meet' some one else in an IVA and with HSBC. I too find not having a debit card a pain.

The Cashminder comes with a Visa Electron card, which is a debit card. It's not quite as good as a full Visa debit card, but I've not had too many problems with it.

Regarding a prepayment card I've got the Tuxedo card which I haven't had any problems with. I pay £4.99 a month to use it as many times as I want, but you can also choose to pay as you use it.

Try the Abbey Instant Plus account comes with a Visa Electron, or the Co-Op Smile Account comes with a full Visa Debit card.......just a word of warning HSBC and FIRST DIRECT don't like people in IVA's and when they get wind that you are in an IVA they will give you 30 days notice to close your account with them - I know cos they did it to me !

Halifax, Abbey and Co-Op are all IVA friendly !

thanks guys
I will probably try Abbey. Lulu, what you said about HSBC was interesting, cos we opened the a/c with them at the start of our IVA, informing them of our position, and apart from not allowing us to have a debit card, all has been ok ( 10 months in )
thanks again

As soon as they saw our name on the Insolvency Register they sent us the 30 day notice - it has happened to lots of others on this forum in the past few months ! You may be lucky and your name hasn't yet been found on the list.....but this is a known HSBC/First Direct policy and has been for along while - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Although I have posted about this before when we opened our HSBC account I took all my IVA paperwork with me and there were no problems. We were with First Direct and they made us close our account.
But it would be good to know banks policies re IVA's
