I recently applied for a savings account from the Co-op but it was declined as (surprise surprise!) I failed their credit check. I've just phoned them up to ask how long I would have to wait for a savings account with them, and was told that once you are discharged there is no reason you cannot apply.

The lady I spoke to is going to appeal the decision for me, so I'll let you know how it goes.

There wasn't such positive news on the current account though - the BR will need to have dropped off my file before I can upgrade from a Cashminder. That doesn't really bother me as the Cashminder does everything I want it to, but I thought I'd ask!

That's strange Skippy as I was given one by the coop[:)] but that was only a couple of months into my IVA, so maybe it had not filtered through? mind you I have only 10p in it at the mo[:(]

I think they are ok about giving a saving account to people in IVAs, but not BR for some reason.

I hope they manage to sort it for you Skippy.

I've always thought it strange that you couldn't have a savings account when it's your money and you can't have credit on it!

i bank with the coop and was refused a savings account when my iva was active last November.
I have finished my Iva in May and they now have accepted me only for the savings account, but not for current account until Iva drops off my file next year. Also even though i have a cashminder account for three years i had to prove and take my Id to a branch .which i could not beleive.Apprently a cashminder account does not prove your id.
Iva F&F settled...Yeah !!!

I logged onto my Co-op account this morning and I have a savings account! The appeal obviously worked as it's sitting there ready to use, so another well done to the Co-op!

Good Skippy - you certainly did us a favour recommending the C0-OP. Heny is having his picture taken now so hopefully will get it to Admin

Another plus for the Co-op as far as I'm concerned!

I hope Henry is posing nicely and behaving himself!

Brilliant news Skippy. Glad they've seen sense.

Looking forward to seeing Henry's picture David.

I wonder if anyone from the Co-op bank marketing department ever logs onto this site? The reviews they get is fantastic - must be an opportunity for admin to cash in on all this positive publicity!!!

I didn't have a problem getting the Cashminder account (I've got 2), but they don't allow people who are BR to have a savings account.
