hi what is the normal timescale for a completion certificate to be sent out. i have read conflicting reports on the web. our last payment for our iva was on the 25/08/16. so its now 4 months, so when should i start to contact the provider, which is debt free direct, and ask where it is.
You could try now although some firms are taking up to six months to send them out. Which company are you with?
Bear in mind as well that some may already have closed for Christmas.

You will need to ask DFD but this does seem long enough. check there is nothing outstanding such as a deed of assignment and hopefully they can get the file closed down quickly.

As mentioned, a six month "admin" period is usually built in to the agreement. Some firms take a few weeks, others the full 6 months ( and then some!). Make sure there is nothing outstanding from your side ( PPI agreements etc).

I made my last payment in March, kept in regular contact with my IP and kept getting told certificate was on its was then got yet another PPI letter off them. Spoke to them and they agreed ppi had been chased and paid into the iva but wanted another form completing, told them I wasn't happy and they basically said they weren't bothered about how I felt and that if I didn't sign the form I would never get my comp certificate and it would show on my credit file forever they then hung up. No such thing as customer service once they have had all you money and completed your IVA..
I agree - however if you sign the letter then you'll get the completion letter and it will all be over.
However, I would think about making a complaint about the call handlers attitude.

Everyone says just sign the form and get your cert but it gets me so mad that these people can treat you like a fool for 7 years knowing that you will be too scared to do anything and then lie to you at the end treat you like your worthless. For nearly 8 months we were told our cert was on its way then the form appeared and were told we should never have been told our cert was on its way as it never was. We still get contacted by creditors now asking us when final payment will be made and it's been nearly a year since we made our last payment and the final report was issued!! We are considering a complaint to the ombudsman.

I agree that a major flaw in the system is that, once you are signed up, you are basically trapped and the IP can do whatever their conscience will allow. However, I have discovered, personally and anecdotally, that many will toe the line when challenged. They thrive on the client not knowing the score -- which is where forums like this come in very handy.
This is also why these firms should be named -- so others can avoid and not get trapped in the first place.
Unfortunately the ombudsman has no interest in the activities of IPs, being outside of his jurisdiction. We can only make complaints to the regulators, vis the government gateway.

I have no problem naming them they are Aperture, formerly GT. We had the misfortune to originally contact cccs for impartial free advice. This consisted of being told only one company could help us and that to get them to work on our behalf we had to offer 1% of the total debt as a monthly payment. He said no problem if this wasn't easy as once we had signed up we could reduce our payments to what we could afford. We were so naive we had no idea how many companies delt with iva's or that we could shop around so believed what he told us, only afterwards did we find out the guy had been paid nearly £900 to put us onto GT, so much for impartial advice...
My advice to anyone is to shop about and speak with a few different companies and to read reviews on them all first, also if your being offered advice ask if they are being paid a commission / finders fee...
